USA Under Water Today! Explosive Flash Floods Bombard South Dakota
Record-breaking rainfall Thursday night into Friday caused extensive flooding in and around the Mitchell area and beyond, resulting in standing water in basements, impassable roads both in town and in the country and city employees and residents working to contain the damage as another round of rains bore down on the community Friday night. Dozens of roads were washed out across northern Minnesota after the storm, totally cutting off access to lakeside resorts and causing tens of millions of dollars’ worth of damage. Officials in St. Louis County declared a disaster after estimating the floods had caused at least $50 million in damage and prompted the closure of more than 40 roads there.
