Mexico's failure is a bigger picture problem. Mexican team owners always want to sell Mexican players at the highest price to the point where European teams simply don't want them. The past decades they also immensely favored foreign players rather than its own Mexican players. In contrast the MLS teams don't sell their players for the highest price. They go and gain valuable play time in the better European leagues. 21 or 23 players for the USA play in Europe, out of the 2 one of them is the goalie. Corruption and money greed has destroyed the Mexican team.

But, US fans, myself included, have aspirations of the national team stepping up to elite status. And Gregg Berhalter is definitely not the man to put us on that trajectory. You can't really fire a guy after he delivered a trophy - at the expense of an arch rival, no less. But, he isn't the guy to be coaching in 2026. That tournament, being held on American soil, on America's 250th birthday, is our chance to make a statement. Quarterfinal, bare minimum - semi final ought to be the aim. I really don't think Gregg is built for that kind of run.

Mexico, in their last seven games against the United States, is 0-2-5. The last time they won a game against us was in 2019. US fans and our Federation are acting like it’s some big accomplishment to be beating Mexico this consistently and it means that we’re super great… But what they’re not admitting is that Mexico are just getting worse and their talent pool is getting weaker because they refuse to send their players to Europe, where they can face top competition. So yes, we’ve gotten a little bit better and we’re beating them more but it’s not because we’ve gotten as good as our fans think we have it’s because Mexico has gotten the worst it’s been in decades. Federation really needs to stop hyping These wins over Mexico and instead trying to schedule tougher opposition in friendly and other tournaments. it would also help if we played some games away from home in hostel environments which the Federation refuses to do except for the rare occasion we have a road game in World Cup qualifying and the times when we make a World Cup in a foreign country.

The problem with Berhalter is not his results against Mexico. The US players are simply better than Mexico now, we can get results against them if the players decide to show up no matter who the manager is. The problem is that Berhalter seems to think that the USMNT doesn't have any opposition that is stronger than Mexico. Everything about how he runs the team is built to destroy Mexico, and it gets us in to trouble sometimes against other teams that we certainly have the talent to get wins or at least make competitive. He manages the team like he's playing against Mexico no matter who the other team is. Of course he looks great against Mexico, it's the only team he seems to think about beating.

Two things are happening at the same time. The USA's most talented generation ever is coming into their prime years with young talent looking to push in as well, and, at the same time, Mexico has perhaps their least talented team in my lifetime.

Noticed on at least 2 occasions they showed a play with the clock showing, then the next highlight shown had the clock with an earlier time on it. Not sure who created the highlight real you watched, but that definitely caught me off guard and seems confusing.Unfortunately at the end you missed the replays of the Robinson incident in the box that from other angles showed that there was no contact to the Mexican player, and that is why the PK was ruled off.

I think Dest could/should play mid field. Possibly a deep playmaker that has the green light to make runs, but still plays a heavyweight defensive role, or even just right mid. He has the talent in both sides IMO and the work rate.

Copa America this summer will be a big test... but he showed a lot of tactical ineptitude vs Netherlands in the WC. These highlights missed the best part of the second goal. Pulisic dribbled to the byline, and then popped the ball over the defender who slid in and I swear you could see his soul leave his body.

The problem with Gregg is that he's good enough to win against Mexico,, but he's incapable of giving us a chance to beat better or equal teams talent wise. Tactics become far more imprtant at that level and he's just not great at it. We beat mexico because talent wise we're better. Talent finds a way.
