I was really angry when several players of this team disrespected their own anthem and flag. From that moment on, I was hoping they wouldn't advance very far. Reading many comments, I see many Americans felt this team didn't represent them well and are glad they are eliminated. True.. But the american keeper 2nd save is invalid.. In penalty shootout after end of the game, the keeper only allow to touch the ball once.. If she save the ball but the ball roll into the goal, her 2nd touch will be invalid.. Hence goal is given..

Okay, so most people have never been in this position before as a striker and a goalie. I have, multiple times. Not necessarily on this level, but in very large local tournaments. I played soccer for 20+ years and I was actually really good. But, it doesn't matter how good you are at this sport. Taking PK kicks isn't easy for neither the striker nor the goalie. The ball doesn't have very far to travel but usually requires a lot of power. The goalie on only has a fraction of a second to decide where the balls going and then has to move their entire body all in a blink of an eye. That's just in a regular PK. But, in a shoot out like this in a huge tournament, the pressure is probably one of the most heaviest in any sport. That pressure intensifies an already very difficult shot a million times harder. People hating on these girls for missing their shots have no idea how difficult the shot actually is!! Alyssa went in the right direction EVERY SINGLE TIME! But, it happens so fast that a goalies brain has a very difficult time determining which way to go and when to get there. If you don't think it's very difficult to take the shot or defend one, then I suggest you go in your back yard and try it. Then, just imagine how much pressure you would be under if it was in a large tournament or even the World Cup!! Put the political views and opinions aside and put yourself in their shoes. They lost by LITERALLY LESS THAN 1 MILLIMETER!!! Alyssa did exactly what she was supposed to do but the ball just took an unfortunate rebound from her hands and just BARELY crossed the line!! If you don't know just how small of a margin of 1 millimeter is, look it up, and then cut that in half!!

@NexusFootball I apologize for the super long comment. I get carried away sometimes and typing on an actual keyboard doesn't seem like it's all that much, lol. Plus not being able to sleep doesn't help, haha. But, the internet is full of people who think things that other make look easy, are actually easy. I understand how all them girls were feeling walking up to take those kicks and the goalies staring them down. It's honestly probably one of the most intense situations any sport can put someone in on both sides of the ball in a world stage tournament.

Not supporting your team is unAmerican. Yes, there are lesbians on the team, no, that does not mean that the US soccer team is undeserving of our love and support. Hating those representing your country is the most thoroughly non-patriotic thing you can do. They are just as American as we are, and they tried their hardest, truly. With love from Texas, good job to all who participated in the World Cup, and my apologies to all who are being constantly disrespected (yes, I don’t like Rapinoe either, but y’all are just downright awful to her) by naive Americans who have forgotten what it means to love thy neighbor, support their country, and be a decent human being. (ps: good job Naeher! truly an amazing goalkeeper, that last shot was insane, good luck next game)
