I really wish everybody would stop trashing Domi's mother. If you read Domi's book you'll know that her father ruled the house with an iron fist and her mother cried a lot and she 'knew her place' so to speak. Her marriage was arranged and she was homesick when she moved here but had to hide her feelings. I do not believe that Camelia wanted to give Jen up. Her husband wouldn't even let her hold her after she was born. I bet she had a hole in her heart afterwards but had to hide that too. She did not grow up here in the United States, she was raised in an environment where it is your husband (or father's) way and there is no if ands or buts about it. Jen had a happier and better life because of the family that adopted her. Try having some compassion rather than passing judgement on people you really don't even know.

Isn't it ironic that the "gymnast" he was so determined to have, turned out to be the 2nd child he gave up for adoption because she had no legs. She turned out to be a natural athlete .. without being pushed. Fortunately, Jen Bricker was raised in a family that knew the meaning of LOVE. Proof! You can't interfere with God's plan.

This is just tragic all around. She was just a child and it feels like her father, especially, was just too motivated by greed. He wanted to create an empire around her. He saw an opportunity and he used the money she rightfully earned to bankroll it. She had little say because we’re talking a considerable sum of money and she was 15, 16 years old. What did she know about being a business person? What could she have known? Money does strange things to people. She needed to maintain control over her money and she needed a good financial manager. I’m glad to see what kind of woman she’s become, though. Every interview I’ve seen her as an adult, she seems like she has a happy family life with her husband and children and she went back to school to her a college degree. She’s been outspoken about all of the toxic and abusive adults who surrounded her life, including the Karolyis. She’s really had a difficult life

Figger Naggot lmfao they did abandon her. Her adoptive parents adopted her later on. These people are disgusting. They forced Dominique to do gymnastics, wouldn’t let her be a normal kid/teenager. Her parents were extremely manipulative and abusive. They would beat her. Suffice it to say that Dominique hadn’t even tried ice-cream until she was 15. They would starve her and were only interested in the money she made. They were even spending all the money Dominique earned from her medals and exhibitions, that’s mainly why she divorced her parents. Please have an informed opinion. They do not deserve to be parents.

It was more so the fault of her husband that she couldn’t keep the baby, who was their SECOND child. He unilaterally made the decision to give the baby up for adoption. She didn’t even get to hold the baby. When the secret was revealed in 2007, Dominique and her younger sister, Christina, were excited to get to know Jen. Their father didn’t want anything to do with her (he passed away in 2008 anyway). Their mother did meet her eventually, and Jen assured her that she didn’t harbor any resentment and that she had a great childhood. Dominique, Christina, and their mother also attended Jen’s wedding a couple of years ago.

Didn’t love? That’s harsh... It seems pretty clear to me that the mother was a very passive woman under abuse herself. She had such sad eyes in all pictures I saw… And here too. Everything you can see between the lines. She even talks about carrying the child and the special love a mother has. She wasn’t *allowed* to love one of her children any further than that! That pain is hers. I don’t think she deserved such judgment. It was said the giving up for adoption was the fathers decision. He seems a piece of work by all accounts and making lots of unilateral decisions. The mother could not/did not know how to stand up for herself and her children. Who knows at that time in that culture/circumstances.. it’s easy to judge from afar. I believe she loved her children but did not know how to protect them any better. Classics of the abusive man story really… And Dominique herself has said many times the adoption was a gift in some ways as Jennifer grew up in a loving, joyful family instead of as abusive one as hers. They discarded her at birth as useless, but she ended up more whole than possibly all of them! An incredible story all around.

That's not true. What a spiteful comment. Dominique was only 6 years old at the time and the parents weren't exactly rolling in money. They didn't believe they could afford the medical bills associated with a child with no legs, so they gave her up for adoption. It wasn't because they couldn't "make money" off of her. The third child born didn't pursue professional gymnastics so that very well ruins that theory.

She has said numerous times that it was her dad that was the tyrant. They are old school Romanians and her mother was raised to believe that the man made the decisions and she was to obey him period, no questions asked. She has also that when her sister was born that Romanian doctors told them they needed to give her up bc they would never be able to afford her care ( Jen has said she needed no special care ). Her parents didn’t even know the language at the time so try and imagine what they were going through. They didn’t just drop her off on a door step, they gave her a chance to have a great life and family and thankfully she got that all the while Dominique had a rough, abusive, and toxic relationship with her dad growing up. So was them placing her up for adoption not the best choice they ever made?!?

I was born prematurely at birth weighing 5IBs,4 oz. Had some slight delays in speech development up until 4 years old. Walking up until close to one. Today I walk and talk very well. I went through special education and speech therapy. Years later I was diagnosed with PTSD because of child physical, and sexual abuse, and bipolar depression in my 20's- as well ADD/ADHD in my 30's. Did my family give me up to adoption? No! I can understand if someone comes a country where a bad dictator was once and had different viewpoints on the very ones with special needs or disabilities. it use to be like that here in the United States, not like it use to. Today I take medications for ADD/ADHD and PTSD/Bipolar depression- Adderall and Zoloft.

It was like that here in the United States once. Special needs individuals with disabilities that had issues at birth especially with Intellectual or general learning disabilities as well as physical and so on can also range from slight to profound form. Some people have disabilities that are a hundred times more severe than myself, I only know of special needs by experience- those with one only understand best than those who don't have one.

Aahley Nave, I applaud you and your family. I’m so sorry what you had to go through...I don’t know you personally but it seems you are a warrior! I just cannot bash a father and mother for doing what they thought was best, especially since they were told they’d never be able to take care of her financially bc of what she’d need. What the dad said, they did whatever, no questions asked. Honestly though, imagine being in a foreign place, not knowing a lick of English and these Romanian docs telling them you need to give her up. The mom, bless her heart, had to do what the dad said, no questions asked. Ironically Jen had a fabulous childhood whereas Dominique’s home life was unstable with her dad’s demands. I think people should lay off on the mom. Obeying your spouse is what was programmed into her..

It wasn't her mother's fault, Doms dad ruled that house and dictated what was and was not acceptable. They were dirt poor when Jen was born. No money for the medical follow up she would need. I don't say it's right or wrong, but that was the way the family was raised. Jen had a wonderful childhood and if you read Dom's book you'll see that Dominique herself had nothing close to a good childhood/upbringing with her father in charge.

I read the comments and I am amazed how easily people judge negatively Dominique's parents, especially her dad and the whole Romanian culture. But why did they give Jen for adoption? Because they were immigrants and they had no money to help her with all medical devices she needed (in the end she didn't want to use the legs, the medical devices). I am amazed how people are talking about the adoption , like it never ever happened in America . How people don't see that the real problem here is the fact that the medical system is so problematic and that if you don't have a good insurance you are screwed.

I remember the 1996 Olympic Games on television. Now in 2019 time has changed so much since then. People even know that today safety is becoming more of a concern even around the Olympic Games. Especially since the terrorism attacks are still at greater risk and have become more prominent over the years. Different crimes have increased especially sexual assault and battery or rape against women have increased to higher level degree over the years. Women should take up self defense class or training program because of the crime rates increasing. Crimes can happen at the Olympic Games and just about anywhere nowadays. Crime and violence as well hate is ramping up only to advance from. bad to worse on to extreme severe worsening situations. 1 Timothy 3:1-5,13 - Critical times hard to deal with will be here. However true that physical exercise does have some value up to some degree of extent in life at 1 Timothy 4:8 - Bodily training is beneficial for a little, however Godly devotion is beneficial for all things. The life we have now, and the life in upcoming future! The life we are living is temporary and people die of cancer,or get age, etc. Godly devotion is the spiritual exercise in which saves lives and the upcoming life in the future is the real life. However the Bible might not be a health book, but it does give the fact that the human body is generally made to exercise and move around. The scripture doesn't necessarily mean to neglect your physical health and well-being needs. People need to be balanced with everything. Fresh air, water, well balanced diet, exercise, and rest. If you eat a slice of cake or treat as it was said in the holistic approach to food is that it's all about balance. Revealation 21:1-5 - brings out hope for eternal life.

Of course I take Adderall 30 ER MG. and it definitely causes me to lose weight and appetite without trying. It's true that it can cause calories to burn at a higher rate than usual. I also take Zoloft 100 mg. I take medication for my ADHD/ADD, PTSD, and depression and anxiety. Adderall is more potent and powerful than what Ritalin was. As little girl growing up I was a special needs child with borderline/mild general learning disabilities and was special education. The annual Stafford County Spring Sports Festival has similar activities that the Special Olympics Games have. At sports festivals you win ribbons. When I was a little girl at some of sports festivals events I had in Spotsyvania Spring Sports Festival - there I raced up against the older kids, and defeated them like the power of wind. I literally did in two years in a row winning first place ribbons. Sports Festival events have first, second, third, and fourth place ribbons. Sometimes they have a participant ribbon. I grew up in Stafford, Virginia. Special need educational students can participate in the Stafford Spring Sports Festival annually and also the Special Olympics Games. However not all special needs children and adults required a wheelchair or extra help and assistance. Especially as they were reaching at the high school years. It's very possible that not all people with disabilities are effected the same way as others out there. Disabilities in all forms and kinda range from extreme slight/mild through moderate to extreme severe/profound degrees in which varies from individual to individual. Some people with disabilities have to work at a goal much harder than others. Some rare cases it could be willpower which is more important than intellectual quotient or ability. It depends on the individual and not how mental health officials or special needs educators view things. When someone is shown that they could do something by willpower then eventually it could make the impression that individual doesn't really fit in the disability category at all. It then becomes a reality of fact that individual can do the same things but differently than what others are doing it. It's like a method that works well for some people will certainly not do so for others with the same labels. This is why I will still continue to some things about intellectual and general learning disabilities that some mental health professionals or special needs educators might always have the insights of what really can cause these under researched cases of intellectual and general learning disabilities with a unspecified or unclassified is really linked with. Dr. Charles Parker's resources and psychological health can answer many questions regarding ADHD and other areas of brain function at BrainCoreJournal.com in which is website that explains why estrogen dominance syndrome can cause the brain chemistry and hormones to not function properly. There is also numerous other good information to learn on different topic. Speaking the concerns of special needs children that have a unspecified or unclassified diagnosis research on Dr. Charles Parker's website. It could probably help people under some of the unknown or mysterious causes of unspecified or unclassified diagnosis that caused the borderline to mild intellectual/general learning disabilities within most cases and in some cases even unspecified/unclassified diagnosis of moderate intellectual disabilities in some people. Usually someone with unspecified or unclassified diagnosis can still have an advanced higher degree of functionality or still be above average to genius functionality depending on how the individual is effected by the unknown mysterious causes of unspecified or unclassified diagnosis.

Obviously need to get themselves in physical shape, and better condition when the Great TB arrives. People will want to run away from an angry mob or violent people that are in fact dangerous. I already fast about 6 to 7 hours 5 days a week.

This fluff was such garbage, making it almost seem the parents were victims as well. The reality was they were garbage, giving away a child because she wasn’t “perfect” and then forcing the next one to follow their dream instead of letting her have her own. What rubbish.
