For someone to beat his record, it would have to be someone who has his same physical make up/height/ground contact speed and turnover. Just don’t see it…the odds of finding similar characteristics and athleticism is too rare. He WILL BE the greatest of ALL time for generations, after generation, after generation

Well it's almost certain. No matter how you try to phrase it with pseudo science, you are statistically: exaggerating/wrong.

Blake's 200m was faster than Bolts before wind adjustment, and he also covered the distance faster after his start (because Bolt's reaction was faster, his overal time was also faster) so it's conceivable that the 200 record could fall (although we've hardly seen an athlete on par with Blake never mind Bolt) Nobody has ever come within a tenth of a second of his 100 time, I think that will stand until the sun explodes. To call the guy a generational talent is an unspeakable understatement - I think we've seen the marathon equivalent in Kelvin Kiptum, but I'm just sorry he never had the chance to put his world record completely out of sight for the next 100 years

@009Daft600 well yes, but being able to run 100m in under 9.6s or a marathon in under 2hrs aren't exactly selection pressures - obviously we become more efficient and we'll develop better gear and training regimes in the future, but these are narrow advantages that won't single handedly take 0.2s off your 100m or 2 minutes off your marathon - in our own lifetimes, we won't see another like Bolt or Kiptum, that's what I'm saying

"The difference between 10.0 and 9.7 is anabolic steroids" -Angel Heredia, Usain Bolt's coach. Bolt came from a time and place with lax doping enforcement regime. Maybe thats why he's so confident that record will last a long time
@JoshJein-WIlsonАй бұрын
Funny that the comments are all utterly oblivious to Jamaica's track record with doping tests at that time. Every other runner in the top 8 fastest times ever has been caught doping. If you think Bolt is just that much faster naturally, you're naïve in the extreme.
@CrimsonUniverse22Ай бұрын
31 is very young for your average person, or even another type of celebrity like a Hollywood actor. 31 for an ATHLETE, and especially for a sprinter, is generally old and past their prime. Also, 19.19 I feel will be broken in the next 5 years. Even Yohan Blake ran a 19.26 shortly after Bolt ran his record. But his 9.58 is untouchable for AT LEAST another decade.
@jwt-nu3eiАй бұрын
I suppose, generally speaking (as you say) it tends to be a little past their peak. But it's not especially rare for people that age to still be in their prime, even in the sprints, and - when they are past it - injury / wear and tear / loss of motivation seems to be the primary cause > physiological ageing alone (even moreso in sports like the NFL - RBs fall off a cliff at 27/28). There are at least 6 or 7 elite sprinters / multi eventer athletes (decathlon / pentathlon) who've won medals at major championships (including gold) between 30-35. Damien Warner (Olympic champ at 32 with lifetimes PBs, world champs bronze at 34 despite carrying injuries), Kevin Mayer (world champ at 30), KJT (won the pentathlon worlds at 30 off 2 years of bad injuries), SAFP (PBs and world champ at 35), ETH (well, just shy of 30 at last Olympics), Sherika Jackson (she'll likely medal this summer at 30, if not win) etc. I think Bolt retired partly because of motivation (as he says), but also because the hamstring injury he incurred in 2013/14 wasn't holding up (in fact, it went in his last race).

In his documentary,"I am Bolt" he said the reason he didnt do 400m was because training was too hard...So his focus was on the 200m and 100m. He ran the 300m and won it with 2nd fastest time...Then Wayde van Niekerk broke the 300m record pusing Bolts tine to 3rd fastest overall
