In fact, even before the 80's Lewis was already experiencing issues with his knees (before he was a known sprinter). If Lewis had of dedicated himself to sprinting only, he would have been more dominant with a longer career. Considering Lewis ran his quickest in 1991 beating a quality field, was evidence of his sprint capabilities (and his performance running anchor at the 1992 Olympics in the 4x 100m was highly impressive). Not inconceivable that Lewis could have also done the triple-triple in three separate Olympics. Also, don't forget the USA boycotted the 1980 Olympics, so Lewis could have won his first gold here, giving him 10 gold medals in total.
