The proper insurance said OH HELL NO. WERE NOT GONNA INSURE THAT.
@Milesco
@Milesco 6 жыл бұрын
Earthquake insurance is VERY expensive, and Florida, as far as I know, is not a very earthquake-prone state, so the homeowners probably decided not to carry earthquake insurance. And given the fact that they were told by geologists and inspectors that the ground was stable, I think their decision was reasonable. I do predict a lawsuit against the geologists and inspectors, however....

The house on the cliff is not in Florida. And the problem is not caused by an earthquake.
@Milesco
@Milesco 6 жыл бұрын
The video is misleading as to the location of the house in question. Doesn't say where the house itself is, but _does_ clearly say that the homeowners are in Florida. Poor journalism. And you're right -- the problem isn't caused by an earthquake. But the insurance policy apparently excludes "earth movement". To get a policy that covers "earth movement", you would presumably have to buy earthquake coverage. That was my point.

My late Grandmother was a early settler of Southern California. I’ll never forget watching house “slip off” on to the Pacific Coastline and her saying “What did they think they were buying? That house was 5-7 yrs old, house BEFORE it was 5-7 yrs old, and before it the same until you get back to the 1950’s. ALL of them slipped the cliff..” Very much the classic “senior moment”, I had to admit she was right.

If you have a home mortgage, that mortgage still has to be paid in full just as if nothing happened. Insurance may not cover any of the loss. One may have the right to sue City building permit department but chances are that may take years and extremely expensive. I was like, "that is terrible" then they mention the "OTHER" waterfront property. I'm sure it was a huge loss, but I'm also sure they ended up filing a lawsuit against whomever sold the house. given she said they bought it in 2012, they probably will win. they're obviously somewhat wealthy so they will hire a good lawyer. they'll recoup most of the losses crying in their Miami waterfront condominium.
@hebneh
@hebneh 6 жыл бұрын
Another TV story on this house showed a neighbor in a boat offshore, looking at this, and remarking that they offered the previous owner cash to entice him to sell to them. If that's true, then a lawsuit might not have been possible if the house originally wasn't for sale and therefore the previous owner made no claims about it.

We have an island that goes almost the entire coastal length of Texas. Developers built hotels all along the southern half. Every year, folks from all over coastal Texas donate their Christmas trees to toss out into ocean (they have to be clean, no tinsel, etc) to help keep the sandbars up. Sand is transported from inland (where it blew) and taken back out to the island and dumped. If these two things weren't done, continuously, the island would be gone. This is how nature works.

Also by looking at the cliff that isn't stable rock in general. Kinda looks like a limestone or something. We have people who build houses in the city I'm in on a cliff side. They learned the hard way. It's a dirt cliff, the cliff was made from years and years of erosion from the river. It's just dirt. Nothing sturdy. A bad rain and parts starts eroding, That's nature.

Some people are blessed beyond the norm, it doesn't mean they're bad. There's landscapers pool cleaners maids who get work because of wealth. What should everybody be stuck in debt? Living one month to the next. Some of these comments below are very selfish and cruel, and honestly they reflect a heart that doesn't deserve wealth.

Seriously. It's like those idiots you hear in the news stories every hurricane season. There's always one. "They built their first house here 17 years ago. It was destroyed in a hurricane four years later. But they're not quitters, they rebuilt. And then 9 years later, another hurricane destroyed THAT house. Undeterred, they rebuilt once more. And today, another hurricane has carried their house off into the surf." (Cutaway to the people who have suffered through this three times now) *"WHY DOES THIS KEEP HAPPENING TO US???!!!!!!!!!"* she blubbers and bawls...... I have zero sympathy for people who can't take the frackin' hint.

When you buy a house by any kind of water they better have made a "good decison" to get insurance in case something like this happens. I remember watching this on TV. In fact. If I remember right. Insurance didn't want to pay. Because it was considered a natural disaster. Not sure of the ending results on that issue. Rich or poor. It is a horrific moment for anyone. They made a remark such as yours, Todd Hageman; about the tsunami in US Southern states too. Human is human. Have a heart. No I am not rich. Not even close. Trauma is trauma. Period. For everyone.

@@surveyguyor8958 : I don't think it's actually cantilevered over the water, but my point was that when they bought the house, the cliff's edge was much farther away from the house than it is now. Erosion has changed the landscape significantly since they bought it.

@@Milesco i see. i see. but from what i remember seeing yes that rock goes out as it does up. i think near the end one of the aerial shots show it. but i do understand ypur point and i agree. it surely mustve slid for the house to be falling. yes its cracjed but i done see any rock that fell. i too was looking for the land that has slid and the driveway and parking area doesnt look like it seperated so i am thinking the whole area (dirt) has been sliding. so even if i was told the rock was solid i would think the builders would have drilled into the rock (they do here) makes me think the buoler built it knowing it would fail. just to sell it to some sucker and make a lot of money.
