Or have passerbys do nothing, while other people pay the price, even though they had the capability to stop them. The Film even implies that had Joe alerted the owner to the Car Theft, the Cops would have been alerted sooner, Sally wouldn't have been Convicted for vehiclar manslaughter, as the Police would have started the chase much earlier, and the Lil Girl wouldn't have died from being run over.

Cars are so easy to steal.
@NoosaHeads

Car theft was rare in the 50's. Of course it hapoened but it just didn't happen _often_ . In those days, most people left the keys in the ignition. Why not? We all knew it was wrong to steal. It's all very well saying "Don't leave the keys in the car, stupid" but that's because we're so used to theft being normal, we can't comprehend a world where people are actually decent. People didn't steal cars in those days, because they were taught in school, the church and by their parents not to be thieves. People actually took the Ten Commandments seriously. (as quaint as that sounds to the youth of today). Penalties for theft were severe and there weren't bleeding heart liberals to tell thieves that _they_ were the real victims. We should take a look at what we've molded our children into, rather than sneer at a decent woman who couldn't imagine why someone would want to steal her car.

Today the penalty for Grand Theft Auto is a minimum of 8 years. In any state if someone dies during the commission of a felony all the joint defendants are guilty of felony murder. Meaning all 3 of the people in the car are facing life in prison. Bottom line, the we are no longer tough in crime, or worse "damned liberals have ruined the world", is simply an uninformed (and wrong) opinion. You are being manipulated to think someone who does not vote the same way you do is the reason the world has problems. It is sad how easy that is to do. Think about why someone wants to manipulate you like that and you may find the answer you are really looking for.

In the beginning I thought this was going to be a creeper film. If a person leaves the KEYS in the ignition, it is not THEFT, it is UN AUTHORIZED USE of a motor vehicle. Now they face a vehicular manslaughter charge.

That was about the most poorly dubbed movie ever. I don't think that 55' Chevy wagon was a real police car. The siren mounted on the front fender with the wires still hanging out and no other kind of warning light anywhere on the vehicle. Even in 1955, they usually did a better job with these kinds of details. Of course, it looks like the budget for this one was maybe two grand, so that didn't leave much money left for movie police cars.
