FYI, if you hold the Option key when you select "scaled" in Display preferences you can see the list of resolutions supported by your monitor to choose besides "default". That is important to ensure you actually are in 4k resolution which isn't always the default. That is really the only way to ensure your picture is 4k.

Looking at the set-up pamphlet for my Samsung 4K TV (KU6290), there's one HDMI input marked HDMI(Cable/SAT/DVI) that's deigned to send a signal back to the device and, that's the one to be used as an external monitor for a PC or laptop.

Sorry but any idea how to run an Asus USB C external monitor with a USB C to HDMI cable? Or adapter.. I don't know if it's even possible since the monitor needs to get powered from the same Usb C aswell since there are none connectors else. tyvm

Nice video, I wanna get the new Huawei matebook 14 2020 ryzen 5 4600h model but I'm not sure if it's USB port can handle 60hz on a 4k display. I asked the chat support what is the specification of the usb c port because I've read somewhere that 5Gbps speed is not enough to do 4k 60hz, it needs to be up to 10Gbps. They said the specification of the USB C port in the laptop is " USB 3.1(Max 5Gbps,the actual transmission rate is related to the third-party device USB-C used by the user.)，and DisplayPort(max 4K@60Hz) ". I'm quite confused with this as they said the speed is only 5Gbps max but they also said DisplayPort(max 4K@60Hz). How can it output 4k 60hz if the speed is only 5Gbps? Does that mean the 5Gbps speed they mentioned isn't related to the display output if it can handle 4k 60hz? Does any usb c port can handle 4k 60hz? I just really want to know if the laptop can do 4k 60hz on an external 4k display. Do I really need to use Displayport to USB C to get 4k 60hz or does HDMI 2.0 cable to usb c also do 60hz 4k? Would really appreciate if anyone can help.

Hi , I've got 2 LG 5k retina and works fine for my mac book pro. I'd like to use them for windows. My windows laptop has one usb-c type and able to use it ok. No, you need a TB3 that is plugged into an external power supply. The monitor's external power supply doesn't provide power over HDMI or DP so it isn't TB the throughout the whole "chain" if that makes sense.

@@G-UNIT21 I have a 2020 13" Macbook Pro and that is what I am using TB3 to HDMI, less stuff to break. But now I have miniDP to DP cables from my old 2015 Macbook Pro that don't work on the new one. But the TB3 to HDMI was only $11 so it made no sense to buy a converter for the same price.
