I had a look few days ago has I have a faulty display noticed that usb and wondered what it's functionality is also problems assigning a sub device in gateway alarm mode

So can you power the device by USB? Particularly by this port? I've tried powering it via the back panel based on the circuit board labels for ground and 5V, but it just resets over and over.

You can use this port. Are you sure about your power supply? Also, May I know why you want to power it this way?

My walls are solid brick with a centimetre of render and a millimetre of hardwall plaster. I'd prefer to surface mount than chisel in the whole transformer. I was hoping this would be able to be powered by 5V 2.1A from the back panel so I could run a low voltage line through a shallow channel to the device. USB doesnt work. I'm working on a POE solution currently. Last resort will be to move the transformer into my network rack and hack run the output through a few lines of CAT6 soldered together.

Required input voltage appears to be 5.37V

@@kian.smarthome - The specification says the max draw should be 150mA. I've got a 5V 2.0A usb power supply here, powering the panel via two of the pins on the back of the display. The stationary SONOFF logo appears, then the screen goes black. This repeats a few times, then an orange progress bar appears with Chinese text basically saying "Installing updates" - None of this happens when powered using the transformer/adaptor. Maybe I need to supply power to another pin? I've probed them all and the bottom 4 appear to be power while the top 4 appear to be unused / intended for relays which didn't make it to the final build.
