Fair points on the back half of the season DL.... I do believe this years DL is better pretty much on attitude alone, i think you're gonna see more out of this unit

I don’t think the preseason analysts are quite up to speed on the speed of which teams can change from one year to the next in the changed environment of college football. You bring in the right portal guys, have another year of experience for underclassman, and equally important bring in new but good coaches, you can basically change outcomes. Are they going to go from bottom to top? No, but it can bring a big step into the middle of the pack in one year, and better than that in year two. I’d avoid ripping too much on either SC or Oregon this year. And I’m not a fan of either team. Just the opposite.

The PAC 8-10-12 has done well when facing B1G teams in bowl games. I would guess the games are about evenly split over the last 50 years. The B1G has been more physical but the PAC has generally been more skilled. That tends to lead to a balance, leastwise in bowl games.

Rutgers and especially Minnesota will also try to test the D-line. They don't have the QB play to win through the air.

I’d refrain from bulletin material on SC and Oregon etc since playing both this year. You can’t go by last couple years with SC on stats because they brought in basically an entire new defense with all new defensive coaches. It would be a mistake going off last year’s USC defense or even last several years. It won’t be the same defense this year. Trust me on that. It may not be a top 20 or even top 30, but not worse than top 35-40.

I really think Oregon could be similar, historically they have struggled with Stanford, who was arguably the most physical team in the Pac12.

Arguing USC is not ready for the big ten is kind of silly. Will they struggle with the physicality, sure. But will be struggle with their dynamic offense-yes.

@sharpe52312 we know that USC will put up big scores. The argument is that they have to, because their defense can't stop anyone. They were last in the B1G last year (121st in the country), and they are again this year. 5 teams on their schedule are top-20 defenses, including #1 and #2 in the country. No Caleb Williams. And B1G teams like to control the clock when your defense can't get off the field.

@@johnkopmeier3579 To be fair, their defense struggled in a Pac12 that was loaded with offensive talent. If their defense was going against Iowa, Minnesota, and Northwestern it might have looked a little better. Wazzou was the second worst team in the pac 12 last year and they torched us.

@@johnkopmeier3579 lol I’m a badger fan. Born and raised in Madison and just graduated with a professional degree from UW. Just trying to raise the counter argument. I don’t think USC will dominate, but I also think the idea they won’t be able to compete in the big ten is kinda hubris. USC still has a lot of nfl talent all over the roster due to its recruiting advantages.

@@johnkopmeier3579 if I had to project USC’s schedule I’d probably guess 8-4 or 7-5. They have a tough schedule and I think Wisconsin, Nebraska, and Washington will be coin flip games. I think LSU, Michigan, Penn St, and Notre Dame will be favored.

I know the track record that Lincoln Riley has of developing defenses, I know the new DC has one years as a DC, I know they have struggled with physical teams, I know they are replacing pick 1-1................. there's plenty of reasons to be down on USC this year coming into the B10
