Ora Scruggs McCoy been a community activist for much of her life and is passionate about preserving not only her family’s farming heritage but also the rich African American history in Appomattox, Virginia. The family’s commitment to conservation is very much tied to preserving their land for the next generation. The Robert E. Lee SWCD helped them implement rotational grazing with fencing and an alternative watering system. The family is also working with NRCS conservationists to implement practices that will enhance the health and productivity of their forestland and provide food and cover for wildlife.
