It seems like the real innovation in this model over older uSDX variants is the USB digital (I/Q) interface. And that IS pretty cool, assuming it works well.

Firmware 2.00c TX drive: 2 PA min: 0 PA max: 170 + using a homebrew 10W IRF530 HF amp for 20M I've had many 59 contacts with good report on the audio.

It's very interesting that people are experimenting with making this stuff. I recall Kevin Loughin having similar problems on SSB with his Tru-SDX but hopefully it will be a fixable problem.

Thanks for the video! I always like to see new kits/products/devices someone make and someone preview... However this is a nice idea, but still in a "pre-alpha" phase. To be actually usable/useful, it needs to fix the sound, put PTT to the left side, as it's common for hand-helds, replace display with something better readable at direct sunlight, replace the rotary pushable encoder (Encoders are usually one of the weakest points in the chain regarding to these radios!! Please, if any designer reads this, think thrice about the encoder quality! There's no need for it to be pushable, one can always confirm with a button, doubleclicking it is the worst! The encoders need to be durable, durable and even more durable. And precise, in an ideal case optical, so they cannot easily wear-out!). Also, for SOTA, it should have 1-2 CQ memories, for both CW/SSB, with repeating loop! Last, but not least, some SWR indicator is something essential (but often omitted on such radios, sadly), possibly also a tuner. For handheld, this is even more important, since the SWR of the whip will be probably terrible and even worse, changing with any movement of the counterpoise (operator). Then, robustness of the finals is also an issue, let me guess, it won't be that great here. So, if you want a HF handheld, Elecraft KX2 is the buddy you need. If it's too expensive, then I'd go for Xiegu 5105 or X6100.

Great video like usual, thank you. I bought one from Amazon thinking that if I don't like it I can return it. First the positive: the output on 40 and 20m is close to 5 watts. I didn't try the other bands. Unlike the true uSDX it doesn't use SMD transistors for the power amplifier. The CW works fine both with a paddle and a straight key. The CW decoder works just like the true uSDX. Now the negatives: I tried everything I read here and on other place and no way to shut it off. I had no choice and had to open it. The build is simple and well done. While it was open I checked for the microphone location and there is none. That explain why there is no SSB output. Another problem if I go to CW mode and no key is inserted it keeps sending dits and no way to get out of it except repeatedly pushing some keys. I'll try tomorrow on a better antenna and an external mike. if it works well I might keep it and install a small switch in series with the battery. Even if I can only use it in CW. You might ask why go to the trouble as I have other QRP radios but I like the size of the radio. UPDATE: it does have a build in mike but sometimes it works ok and sometimes the radio outputs a carrier with noise. I did ask the seller how to shut it off, waiting for a reply. The encoder being a little fiddly is an understatement. UPDATE: to shut the radio off when running from the internal battery: Press and HOLD the encoder down to adjust the volume to -1, then it will shut down

Even to this day ham radios especially hf ones can cover the most isolated parts of the world where mobiles and internet still can't which is why they're still really valuable.

No idea what you are going to say about it, but mine is not worth the price tag... Update: i have version 2.2 and does not have the internal battery. It is tauted as a "SOTA" radio.

It's an ATS100 with transmit capabilities. Pretty sweet.

If you can live without the transmit capability - and that did not sound impressive - the Tecsun PL368 is a similar sized all mode receiver that works quite well and is much easier to use.

does it do 11m CB as well? can it .. its prefect QRP for my ninebot scooter

Mine came without a manual. Couldn't even figure out how to turn it off. Since power and ptt are the same button you just keep transmitting.

In my opnion these rigs make only sense if they have some sort of quick scan through selected channels or bands. Kind of a portable semi-scanner. Having a TX option is handy but only if quality is acceptable wich I doubt it will. If only the reception is/were as good as a bigger rigg. Seems like a gimmick to me. After consideration this might be even the best rigg for the price if you TX not very often. I wonder what the specs say about band coverage, are there gaps in DX frequencies. Does it receive airband and military band on AM? My more expensive Malachite clone does not have those 180-400MHz AM/FM bands. If this tiny gadget has it, its worth the money.

Can someone please answer this question on this product I just bought mine got it today and I was able to turn the power on by the pwr button but I can’t turn it off ! I pressed and held the pwr button but it don’t shut off ?

How this thing turns off? I could turn it on, but then power key acts as PTT, does not turns off.

Hello--thanks for the video. I purchased one of these and its functionality was intermittent with generally poor reception and an awkwardly placed PTT button. There is no technical help available and no manual. I sent it back and have to say the the communication with the company is dismal while the unit is "somewhere" in customs as I await a refund, which, I have come to find out, may only be "partial." At best, the transceiver is "experimental" and would be fun to play with were it not for its many flaws. It will be a while before this rig becomes truly useful.

Can I send a CB band in AM mode? If the output is reduced, will the quality of the modulation be improved?

Hi, I'm JJ0TUC. I have assembled uSDX. However, I am having problems with "! V3.3=1V" and the screen does not proceed. the version of the PCB is JA2GQP with 74HC4053, Arduino NANO and the version of the firmware is 1.02w. Can someone please tell me how to fix this problem?

I think I’ll pass on this one for now and find something else to spend my money on.

so a portable without the 80band, and no portable antenna... and no ptt key where it belongs. It is basically just uSDX clone in a rectangular housing, printed portable on it. Do You run around with this 'hand held' using a base station antenna... or do you just drag an endfed behind you as you go.. perhaps catching some street cats in the process? With no matching antennas (i would even accept monoband antennas) to plug on ... its useless. (yes, there are whip antennas out there for these bands, but i guarantee you if you mount these on - the weight will quadrupel, the connector will break off.. and you will not be able to pass doorframes without breaking something - here we need rubberduckie-versions.. but they dont exist... this radio is only a handheld on the first glance and turned off frontal cortex)
