*Lithium to Nicad tools adapters: • Battery adapter Cordle...
You will need to stop using the tool before you drain the battery too low(no worry with Ryobi, Makita, Ridgid). Don't continue using the tool to the point that the tool is getting weak(low battery) or worse stops. Stop and Charge the battery. Lithium packs can be charged anytime and have zero memory effect unlike the old Nicad. Continuing to use the tool when it's dying could damage the Dewalt, Milwaukee, Black Decker etc battery pack.

There's not many channels that stay true to their original youtube appeal and go into full shillmode. I hope you are well and I hope maybe you do another video with the crazy cars driving those rocks way out in the boonies.

pretty crafty mate. I never gave it a thought before and now you've sown the seeds of progress. I am keen on the note you finished on too since the big batteries cost so damn much to buy. Those little ones I've seen the carpenters and electricians throw them in the bin since they don't last.
@nclonewolf72
@nclonewolf72 2 жыл бұрын
This is awesome! As a pro carpenter I've been Ryobi loyal for decades, and they've been great. Still have a few blue n yellow ones like a recipro saw I use daily,. Still kickass! But a a poor old simple carpenter from Western NC,. Budget is always priority and Ryobi are the best bang for the buck when it comes to less expensive brands. Plus 300+ tools run on the 18 v. I have a ton. But thru some " horse trading" I've accquired a 20v Framing nailer, Drill and circular saw and 12v impact and one handed reciprocating saw in Dewalts lineup. Batteries are 4x the Ryobi price. First thing I'm doing is ordering a DeWalt adapter, and when it gets here I'm making the adapter. Most useful KZfaq video ever for me! Words can't express the gratitude as DeWalt is better is so many ways IMHO. THANK YOU!

No need to sacrifice a tool to do it either; look for my earlier comment where I posted a link to a guy who had a 3D printed design for Ryobi - even if you don’t own a 3D printer he tells you how to go about getting them printed.

One thing to note is Ryobi has the lithium-ion battery safety electronics in their batteries itself whereas most if not all other brands have those electronics in the tools. That's why a Ryobi comparable amp-hour battery is larger than other brands. This means it's very easy to adapt Ryobi batteries to old Ni-Cad tools. This is why Ryobi kept the form factor in the first place. I made an adapter out of an old broken blue Ryobi flashlight and a non-working Earthwise Ni-Cad battery. I've been using it for 4 years now on my Earthwise hedge trimmer. No internal electronics needed.

BINGO!! There's series of vids here on YT.. "Definitive Proof That Ryobi 18V ONE+ Batteries Have Built in Low Voltage Cutoff (LVC)" - watch the first 10-mins or so of part-1, skip part-2, fast forward part-3 to about the 12-min mark. Clearly shows a Ryobi(brand) 4ah batt turning off at 14.68 VDC. I'm in the process of making an adapter for Ryobi to Drill Master🙂🙂- Have DM Jig Saw, don't use it often, when I need it the batts are dead cuz NiCD have poor shelve life.

@@sixtyfiveford liked it lol I loved it would there not be a method of minimizing the size of this though it makes me wonder why not just make the battery connect sideways and have it that way instead that way the peg can be extended and the height would be the same. That was my thinking why not just make an interchangeable top so you can eliminate the peg lets say and make it a milwaukee equal battery hrmmm... that gets me thinking I have two bad milwaukee batteries but I don't want to pay an arm and a leg for them so... I may just try and swap the top out directly and see how she blows. At that point I may be able to go ahead and use the badaptor for that battery. I know you say it can't be done but I don't see why not the tool should just cruise right along in my mind only issue would possibly be a charge however with the badaptor that may not be an issue who knows just thinking out loud here.

Nice I made one to work with my older Power Glide drill and circular saw using a Walmart Hyper tough 20 volt battery since the older Ni Cad batteries that they came with were terrible and the replacement ones I bought lasted maybe a few months because they wouldn't fully charge. Hyper tough stuff is cheap and they use lithium ion batteries and they last much longer.

you need to learn to use the HACK.. right now i am paying nothing for dewalt 5ah batteries,how? ok work the hack. Home depot 791 drill battery charger bag is $199 with a free tool. make the battery the free tool and the price for all of this is now $159. yes it goes down! .... now you can just return the drill battery charger bag in the box and keep the battery for $53 at this point but here is what i do.... sell the drill only for $125 and sell the battery charger and bag for $60. (the $159 purchase price is $172 including tax for me)... so i make $13 and keep the free battery. i have done this 7 times. yes it is still active today. i just checked. you must put the deals i described in your cart separately. the $199 deal and the 5ah battery then look at the price. now u can also just sell the drill for $125 and keep two 5 ah batteries for $47. (a two pack of 5ah when on sale is $149 plus tax!).

And everyone thinks Dr. Frankenstein is mad :D Also, E6000 is the recommended adhesive for re-gluing phone screens to the bezels if they become separated. It doesn't turn hard and brittle like super glue (or similar) and allows a bit of flex for things like having your phone in your pocket and you accidentally sit on it.

Cool video. I just buy the boot leg after market batteries for my Makita stuff from Amazon. They work fine, maybe not quite the quality of a genuine Makita battery but at 1/3 the price, they work great.
@sixtyfiveford
@sixtyfiveford 3 жыл бұрын
I agree they do work. Their gimmick is putting in cells that are as high drain as the stock packs. So a stock Makita pack can deliver around 40-60amps of continous 18v power where the off brands are anywhere from 20-30amps. You would never notice unless using something like a circ saw that needs the full 60amps.

I have the Craftsman C3 series tools (actually some of my 19.2v Craftsman tools pre-date the C3 upgrade) and while they are really great tools, when Stanley Black & Decker bought Craftsman they dropped the C3 line. As you might expect from a tool that has been in use since around 200, some of the batteries have stopped charging. Because of this I recently bought some aftermarket batteries for my tools, and I am testing them to see how they do. I also looked at some of the adapters (like the ones you have linked) but they look like they are very clunky/bulky. Do you know of any 20v battery to C3 adapters that are not like that? I am considering attempting to tear apart one of the dead batteries and "graft" the post on to 20v, pretty much the opposite of what you did in this video, to see if I can come up with something that is less bulky.

Quick question, to make higher AH batts, have to hook cells or packs together in parallel. But to charge lithium packs fully but safely, can we depend on theelectronics of the charger, or is it the pack's board? I'm wondering, too, if they have the size baked into their chips, or does any of this matter -- risk of fire/explosion/meltdown from runaway lithium cells?

I have a great Panasonic 12 volt drill but need to upgrade the batteries to lithium. I think Dewalt made a slide on 12 volt battery that would adapt to the drill but I don't find any adaptors that are factory made. How would you go about making one. Can you give me any advice? Thanks for all the great info on this subject. I assume that I will also need to find the matching charger for it.

That being said they do make some premade ones for the 19.2v Craftsman to work on a Dewalt or Milwaukee: amzn.to/2UNMsvx or on a Black Decker/Porter Cable 20v amzn.to/31ZMeDc

I'm pretty sure moe has an old video about shocking the battery to get it to start taking a charge again
@sixtyfiveford
@sixtyfiveford 3 жыл бұрын
There are a lot of videos on shocking them with higher voltage but it is all fake. You'll force charge to them and it'll take a superficial charge. You plug it into the drill and the drill will work. This is what people show videos of. However the drill batteries have no capacity so they only run for 30- 120 seconds, maybe. Take the battery charge it, leave it for a day and it's 100% dead again just from self discharge. You then have to shock it again to get it take a superficial charge.

@vsvnrg3263

that goop stuff you mention doesnt exist in australia to my knowledge. i have used soudal t-rex to glue terminals up into older nicad drills to accept makita batteries using velcro to hold them in place. i adapted a 20 year old 12v ryobi (i call it the bushpig) to accept 18v nimh makita batteries then when i updated to lithium ion tools, i used a hot air gun and pop rivets to mould drainage pipe into an adapter, holding it in place again with velcro. i'd be placing a neatly cut piece of wood plus t-rex into that gap at the front of your adapter. it looks like it would break if it got dropped.

Any word how well a earthquake xt (20v I think) battery to a Milwaukee m18 would work. Basically I want to look into the cordless heat gun for heat shrink but don't have or plan on any other m18 equipment. (I've only got 2 m12 tools; ratchet and soldering iron) How about earthquake xt to bauer or Hercules? I think I'd seen an add for their line having a cordless heating.

You can buy one off the shelf to run your old v18 tools of M18 lithium amzn.to/3atw8W5 Just occasionally watch your battery gauge just like you would a fuel gauge in your car. You can also feel instantly when the tool drops in power. You would have to intentionally keep running a dyeing tool to damage your battery pack.
