Use Half the Epoxy In Your Table Project

How to make an epoxy resin table in your shop using half the epoxy. We all know how expensive epoxy can be, so I came up with a way to get the same look of a table twice as thick while using half the resin. I have never seen this done with an epoxy table before, but people have been doing it forever with granite and marble countertops. Not only does it save a lot of money, but it saves a lot of weight. In this video I show you how to make the entire table, not just this bull-nose trick too.

been binging all of your videos and you saying “if you’ve already seen me explain how to make one of these tables and just want to see the edge trick you can skip ahead” made me laugh, as if i’m not gonna eagerly sit here and watch you explain it and show it to me 1200 times, i don’t think you understand how much i will re-watch the entire process ad infinitum 😭

I agree with you. Not having proper legs on a table "TO ME" can drastically raise the value of your project or cheep legs drop the value of a project. it is like having a VERA WANG make a dress for someone but then the model is wearing dirty old tennis shoes when modeling the dress ( well in todays world of clothes modeling that may be considered CHIC but you get my drift ) .

@@ryanhanslo3029 he’s said in the past that it is to seal the wood so it won’t be stained by the epoxy when he pours. That way he only has to do minimal planing and sanding afterwards to have the natural wood figure and coloring exposed

@@TheHuntron2000 if the epoxy seeps into the wood, even plaining and sanding won't save it. The edges get "blurry" because the wood gets dyed black by the epoxy and there isn't a sharp line of contrast anymore

I find your videos by far the best on YT. I’m an experienced woodworker (over 40 years) and think I can say that you do everything in that difficult balance between perfection and yet still needing to make a profit. Perfection takes so much time that you end up working for nothing; “good enough” is never good enough. I don’t see any other maker go into such detail about each step; the method and the reason plus taking the time to list out everything used. For instance, I suspect many YT people would not tell us where to buy those legs but keep it to themselves. That really annoys me - I don’t like videos which just say “look how great I am”; yours say “here is what I do; here is how I do it and here is what I use” I’m not a great fan personally of heavily refined pieces. However, I do accept that they are a great way to use pieces of timber which otherwise would be scrap. People like them at the moment but fashion is a nebulous beast. I don’t know what will happen when the fashion changes. Please maintain the very high standard of your videos. The quality of camera work enhances the quality of the work you show.

Beautiful work! Cam. I really like how the rorschach/bookmatch effect was made slightly lessened; I often photograph placid lake and pond shorelines to achieve this effect and enjoy how the slightly distorted reflection adds a little more nuance and intrigue to the story. I love the way you made this even with the butterfly edge. It turned out spectacular. I went to look at the table legs and wow are there a lot of designs, you weren’t kidding. I think the ones you selected are just right for your desk. They really are stylish. And thank you for sharing the link. I usually can’t afford the legs, but omg, there is a sale $230 to $99. That is so do able for anyone. So glad for this resource. I had looked at Chinese sites, even though the standard legs are cheap and affordable the shipping is not. So, thank you very much for your videos. Very good technique, information, and diy skills.

Wow. Thanks so much for sharing your "mistakes" and how you fix them. There are so many perfection videos out there, which are great for entertainment but don't really show you what's real and how to think outside the box to deal with the inevitable breakdowns in any major project. THIS is what I really need to learn to help me build this house I've wanted to build for the past 30 years. You can bet there will be a hella lot of "breakdowns" throughout that process! Best to learn how to keep my composure and get down to the business of sorting them out as efficiently as possible, so thanks for sharing that process you go through in your work.

I've been watching your videos for some time now and have watched most of the earlier ones. This table and the "trick" to save resin is great. I think the legs are perfect, especially if it's used as a desk. You have inspired me to branch out from turning resin and timer pieces to making my first river table, out of walnut no less! Walnut is not so common in Australia and you have to be in the right place at the right time to get some. A friend cut some slabs for me from his walnut tree that died of old age and they've been sitting in the rack for a few years. They're a bit wormy but that adds character (doesn't it?).

I've been binge watching your videos and I really like this table a lot. Love the way you did the edges to double the thickness. Personal opinion on the "mistake" is that I loved the look of the mistake before you "fixed" it. I didn't see it as a flaw or mistake at all. I don't really care for the bow-tie - but that's just me.

There are no mistakes in life in my opinion, only learning moments. What I think would look really nice is IF you ever have to cover up another “Mistake”, instead of using a bowtie, you can somehow make your double X into an inlay & use it as your makers’ mark to cover it up. I don’t know if that makes any sense. The table looks absolutely amazing.

Great work. Two things I really appreciate about your videos: voice over makes it easier to understand your processes. Second i value the mistakes, that you keep them in the video and talk about solutions. I've quit many projects when things go wrong and its nice to see problem solving.

Nice trick, however it's possible to see a mirror pattern on the sides. I say that because I saw you doing it :) and if I didn't see it I probably wouldn't have noticed.

Yeah, the only thing I would have done differently here, would be to get the very ends of the timber vertical, so that when cut off and flipped the vertical edge would carry through to the underside.. That would be as easy as marking a line,cutting it back half an inch or so, and then hand shaping from the cut out to the live edge..

Love the table. Didn't look like a mistake to me. Instead of a wood bow tie what if you did an epoxy bow tie? Or some kind of trade mark with your shop name? The legs are an excellent addition and just enhances the over all table look. Beautiful work as usual.

Your this double edge reminded of my father work.. he is a marbel tiles and granite worker and for our house kitchen he did this same thing with granite and it looks seriously cool

Great video Cam! Yeah, I use Flowyline for most of my legs. I love the designs Alex comes up with. In fact, the curved ones you displayed at the end I got a few months back. Thanks for the excellent instructions, I have learned so much from them, and became so inspired that I am doing a lot more work now - in my 1 car garage, in the winter... I also just purchased a Festool sander, with the dust collector, it's on the way now, and I can't wait to try them out!

you are a perfectionist, i like that about you. If you even see a smallest imperfection, you will solve it somehow and not leave it as is. I am also like that in everything. Looks amazing btw. I was a woodworker about 27 years ago, but i went to the military service. Now i want to get back in to woodworking and your video's gave me a lot of inspiration. I watched many of your videos before building my own epoxy resin table. I would like to thank you for sharing so many valuable bits of information. In return I would like to share with you one useful tip that I haven't yet seen on any woodworking video and that I discovered on my own. Cleaning up the edges of a live board and knot holes on old timber can be done very effectively using a high pressure water hose (Karcher or similar) . This can remove rotten wood and bark easily, cleanly and quickly. My own table was made from very old elm boards that I found in a local sawmill, felled 40 years ago and then forgotten. (I live in France). Thank you once again.

I enjoy watching your videos. You do really great work. I have been watching this guy cut trees on a sawmill. I got hooked on just the beauty of the wood. Now I watch what you do with that beautiful wood. Love that table

Subscribed! Love the table and saving on epoxy idea. I may have tried a line of color-matched wood wax first instead of a bow tie but either way this table is beautiful and your tutorial is perfect

That turned out beautiful!! I like the fact that you didn’t get lazy and just leave the mistake there, even though that would have been understandable!! I’m learning a lot watching your channel!!
