Use Inkscape to Improve Images to Cut with a Cricut

If you do not already use a design software and want to try a free one that works well, take 10 minutes to watch this video to learn a bit about Inkscape, a free design software. You can use it to make improvements to images that you plan to cut with a Cricut.

Wow! I’ve been so scared to use Inkscape but your video makes it look so simple. I think I may give this a try.

You should definitely give it a try! You can do it:) When I finally devoted some time to it and tried to learn some basic things, I fell in love with it! I have a couple of offset videos where I used Inkscape - one for text and one for an image. If you use or would like to use an offset (shadow) feature, you might check them out. Especially if you are a Cricut user because Cricut doesn't have a great offset or shadow capability. Thanks for watching and the nice comment!

Hello Marilyn, I'm new to Cricut and Inkscape. Your tutorial is great!! Got Inkscape to clean up image. I saved it to my desktop and it visually looks fine as svg file. When I try to upload into my Cricut; the entire image square is color filled black. No image to be seen. What did I do wrong? Thank you!!

In Inkscape, when you click on the image and click on the nodes tool, do the nodes show up? You can save something as an SVG and it not be a path, which is what is required for a cut file.

Good to know, thank you! I sit around and watch youtube videos on my laptop with a good size screen, so I alway worry about whether you will see the details on a smaller screen.
