Pesticides (herbicides, insecticides, fungicides, nematicides, rhodenticides and others) have become an integral part of field crop production technology. No crop can be raised successfully without use of proper pesticides. In this video for the public awareness, we have analyzed the potency, price, availability and role of two groups of these pesticides suppliers in our agriculture.
There is a basic thing that neither all generic pesticides are substandard nor all multinationals have all potential products. Overall, most of the multinational products are more reliable in producing better results than most of the generic products having the same molecular formulae. That is why, multinational pesticides are mostly used as standard during the bio efficacy trials.
Price of multinational products is often high and beyond the reach of our poor farming community. National companies have played a very positive role in downing the market price of multinational pesticides. Availability of multinational products all over the country is not as easy as those of generic ones. Not all but most of the generic companies are making the misuse of provision of F-17 and providing substandard pesticides. Repeated use of such substandard but cheaper pesticides has resulted into development of resistance against many insects and weeds.
Generic products may also be used but wisely, SOPs are more essentially followed and more brain storming is needed for better results. For example, they may work better only in case these are applied at earlier infestation stage.
