These videos are so helpful. I’m learning to draw a lot later in life, been doodling on and off. I felt like I never got drawing, or had any understanding on how people seemed to do it so easily. This playlist has been so helpful and made it so enjoyable. It’s helping me with my drawing so much, but also I’ve been so surprised at how just the act of setting aside time to draw every day and watch one of these videos whenever I can. And it has made everyday life feel much more pleasant. I feel like the focus I get like thirty minutes into these when everything fades out is really nice. This journey has been surprisingly peaceful. When I get into the zone even just figuring out 3d shapes is oddly super cathartic. So thank you so much, truly ❤️❤️ can’t wait to finish this course

I’ve been drawing since I was in kindergarten, but I lost that dedication somewhere in the beginning of high school. I was scared to go back in fear of stressing myself out over how much I hated my art. But going back to the basics with your classes taught me to be more forgiving of myself. Thank you for helping me understand that

Made it to lesson 4! yippee~ I really appreciate all of the "relax, take it easy" comments, it keeps me from wanting to judge myself too hard for not being perfect. It also helps keep me from focusing too much on the end results rather than the process. P.S If you've been a good citizen of the earth like me by using both pages of your sketchbook...it's okay to become the bad guy from here on out. It's just not possible anymore now that we learned how to shade things T_T Looking to future lessons, thank you professor!!

Thank you so much! I am painting with acrylics and I am really good at blending and mixing and texture but I have no base. I cannot even draw good cube! Or perspective. I used to go to art school from 15-17 and I was there for film-photography but we also had drawing classes and the teacher showed us NOTHING of what you are showing, he just made us draw some scene he put up each week and he was criticising us and giving us bad marks if we didn't manage and it made me believe that I can never be an artist because I can't do it just like that. I don't know how to draw fabric he was arranging and he made us think that the ones among us who did good were born with that skill. Now, with your classes I can do it! I cannot believe I wasted many years thinking I will never be able to put my ideas on canvas and I have many ideas. I thank you so much, you are a great teacher.

To be fair, someone who acts like that doesn't even deserve to be called a teacher... Your work as a teacher should be to motivate and help your students, not to destroy their self-confidence by criticising everything they do.

its my first time taking course from an Art Professor, I am doing all the way you're telling and I've seen improvement in the way I draw. after this lesson I think I can shade better😁 I was not good at art though, and didn't know about the basics lmao. and I wanted to be a professional artist. I take pencil every time and think I will do something great this time but everything turns out bad. for any drawing I don't know how to draw proportions but I will learn them too from you and once I am all done I will make a drawing and specially send you😁 I was like" c'mon that's enough! let's learn properly and design your own world!" and now I am here with my fellows that are learning from you and our honorable professor. I hope this journey goes well and you extend the course with new ideas and techniques for us tysm.

This was a brilliant class. I really enjoy that you share beyond just drawing. You also teach other things, like the discussion about Picasso. What a JOY to learn even more about artists, their scale of productivity. It reminds us that even the greats took time to wait for the muses to speak. I also enjoyed learning about Gustave Dore too, that is quite the rabbit hole, he really was a remarkable artist in illustration. You can get so lost in his pieces. I have to wonder the time invested in creating them. I appreciate that you have taken the time to teach us and for making it possible for us to learn, especially for those who can't afford a proper education. It's great to get UNIVERSITY training at a SUPER discount. You are doing a brilliant service by giving back to the ART community and bringing others into the fold of Art. Drawing is such a brilliant activity it really is something you can do anywhere. What a GIFT you have given to us, in both your time and knowledge and your incredible teaching. You make it FUN!!!!

Really enjoyed this lesson. I think I easily get stuck drawing 2D so I need to work on this skill. Question... About the various shading techniques would you mix them in the same drawing or if you say use cross hatching in one part, does all the shading in that drawing need to be done in that technique?

That’s okay, results take time! It probably took most of us 2-3 years before we could learn to walk. My daughter was diagnosed with autism and still can’t speak despite being nearly 4 years old. We spend a few hours each day practicing and everyday she’s getting a tiny bit closer to being able to use language to communicate with us. Unfortunately for some, some things come harder than they do for others. But we won’t give up and I sure hope you don’t either! ❤️

People say to me all the time "but I can't even draw a stick figure. I could never do art like you" and I call B.S. Every time. Because there are so many resources. The real truth is these people don't have time to learn. And that's fair. I took the time. I made the time. I started out drawing bad stick people just like everyone else. The difference is I kept going until I could do better.

Well said, my friend! I agree 100%! Drawing (and art general) is just a skill like reading or writing, bicycling or cooking, etc. Imagine if everyone gave up on reading because they mistakenly believed that only certain people were born with the “talent” to read?
