In this video you'll learn how to create point clouds, DSM and orthophotos with WebODM.
For the complete tutorial go to www.gisopencourseware.org
This video was developed for the course "Drone Pilot - Remote Sensing tools for assessing plant health and monitoring irrigated agriculture to improve water productivity". The course was implemented by IHE Delft, FutureWater and NARC. Funding came from DUPC2, the IHE Delft Partnership Programme for Water and Development (www.un-ihe.org/dupc).
I can also highly recommend the book "OpenDroneMap - The Missing Guide" by Piero Toffanin: odmbook.com/

Hi Hans, this tutorial is great, thank you for the detailed explanation. I have tried to project the tiff (orthophoto) into Qgis, but it does not seem to project right, have you encountered this problem before? Thanks, Sam
@HansvanderKwast
@HansvanderKwast 2 жыл бұрын
When you load the orthophoto QGIS should recognise the projection. You can only get a good projected result if the images have GPS data in the exif data and if the orthorectification goes well. You can manually add GCPs in WebODM to improve the orthorectification.

It depends on the output data from WebODM how to clip to your study area. The raster data can easily be clipped in QGIS using a polygon for your study area. If you want to clip the LAZ file, you can use Cloud Compare (cloudcompare.org/), LAS Tools plugin (kzfaq.info/get/bejne/b7KFqLCK393Oln0.html) or Whiteboxtools plugin (kzfaq.info/get/bejne/jJyGfduL3t-4dZs.html).

Getting an Intel i-7 at 3 Ghz, with 64GB memory and 2TB SSD drive would tremendously reduce processing time. Two Windows machines like that in tandem, running WebODM (with its sidekick QGIS) in parallel, might be an alternative to Cloud processing, running Linux ont these machine might speed things up quite noticeably, if you are comfortable with CLI. Long live OSF 😍

@@LuisAlbanes You can digitize GCPs that are visible on an existing georeferenced GIS layer (can be any that is useful) and clearly visible on the images that you want to orthorectify in WebODM. Export them to the format for the GCP file. You can take the points from a high resolution satellite image or existing orthophoto for example.

@HansvanderKwast

According to this ODM tutorial (docs.opendronemap.org/tutorials/) it's 83% overlap and sidelap for flight lines for 3D, but you can reduce this to 68% for a crossgrid pattern.
