Great vids. I’ve been watching you all night! There is a slightly quicker way to do this you may want to try out. I’m using iPad but probably possible on any tablet. There is a built-in screen record function on the iPad that allows me to make a video capture of whatever happens on the screen. I’m using LumaFusion so easier to green-screen it. I open a paint app and create a green background on the canvas. Then I go to screen record which I can access by simply dragging in from top of screen and hit record. Then I just go back to paint and write on whatever I want and a movie file is created that I can then import to LF and layer in over any time-line scene I choose. Really fast and no additional apps required. Cheers.

Just finished trying this...I use Final Cut Pro X + I am still learning everything, including Adobe Draw and DU Recorder. It worked and only took me 8 hours! Just kidding...it did take 8 hours to replicate the first segment of your video - but the second part, recording the process of writing and then incorporating it into the timeline only took about 15 minutes. The first 8 hours plus a good nights rest paid dividends. It is a very cool capability to have . Thanks for teaching the technique!

I am a total editing beginner so my workaround may have disadvantages. However I followed your advice to use adaboe ilustrator but screen recorded my writing and then put that clip into my edit. It was a bit of a pain doing it on my phone but I imagine writing on a tablet in any decent paint app with different brushes is the way to go.

After fannying about with DU Video I found that the iPad has its own inbuilt screen video capture, you just need to go to Settings, Control Centre, Customise Controls and the select under More controls cant remember what its called, think its record screen or somethng. Saves your video to your Photos folder. Only issue is the gadject from where you select the recording mode (slide down from top right) stays active and as you minimze it will therefore need to edit the video at the start and end of the capture. But its free and works great

Great video - thank you. I was able to get the handwriting working great, but I notice that in the area I'm masking if the writing is over a dark video I see a very light outline. Is that just part of it, or is there a way to fine tune is so that the unmasked area fully disappears (aside from the text)? Thanks again. Really appreciate these tips!

This was a great tip, but Adobe left the Android world hanging. They retired free illustrator and the new Fresno doesn't have an Android version. Anyone have a good substitute?

Hey ^_^ Just getting ready to enter the vlogosphere and found this video really helpful! One question, I think you're using Premier Pro to edit? Do you have familiarity with Lightworks and if so do you know if this is possible with Lightworks? (or do you think I'm insane and should instead just be using Premier Pro? I've only gone with Lightworks because it seems to be unanimously considered the best free video editing tool but... I'm thinking I'm going to end up upgrading it anyway to be able to edit in 4k so maybe I should just start with Premier Pro instead?)

I don't think AE is necessary. I rarely ever use after effects. Some things are definitely easier, but you can do most things in premiere pro, some just take longer.

I followed his instruction as much as i could, but it still didn't work for me. He zoomed in on his pallet so I couldn't see the title of his pallet at the top, So I never understood where he was at or what pallet he was on to make adjustments as he was.

There seems to be a problem with the current version of DU Recorder. Many unhappy downloaders and app not doing anything approaching the task of recording. Have you heard about this and can you recommend an alternative app for recording handwriting for inclusion in KZfaq videos? thanks.
