Portable monitors are not cheap, but it gives you a better experience of gaming on-the-go. The Nintendo Switch is already portable, but what if you want to play in a slightly bigger screen, or share the gaming experience with your friends. Maybe there's another option, specially when you have a tablet lying around your house.
In the past, we made a content on how to use your laptop as your monitor. And recently, I remembered that I have an old 10-inch Samsung tablet that I rarely use and thought that maybe there's a way to use it as a portable monitor.
For this content, I will show you how to utilize an android tablet as your portable gaming monitor.

What's the latency like compared to wired/wireless streaming apps? (Steam link, GeForce Now, Moonlight etc.)

holy crap, this is amazing!! thank you so much for the info. I was very hesitant to use it again once I noticed the latency, but then I lowered the resolution on my switch and BINGO nearly zero latency. I am using the USB elgato s+ so that may play a role but lower resolution on the docked switch makes all the difference

So with the lowered resolution is there a noticeable downgrade when playing? I feel like this would be bothersome, the tradeoff is worth it in your opinion?

This worked for me perfectly! I'm using... 4k Gamestick lite, connected to... Portable Samsung battery, connected to... Hdmi video capture, connected to... Samsung Galaxy tab A 10.5.... everything works flawlessly! Thanks very much 😀 👍🏽

Thanks TT !!! life saver for me, I'm trying to find setup to record video in loop and could not find any other solution but use my $30 dash camera with HDMI output to put into my Samsung tablet. Was surprised that in Dec2022 there is no any other solution /app for Android or iOS to do this. Anybody hear/know about any app to do this ?? I need it for my sport training, so I can monitor /replay/slow-mo it any time

Got Huawei MatePad and this is huge enough for me as a display. I originally intend this to be as drawing tablet but seems I can have more use of this (after getting disappointed that I forgot Huawei doesn't have proper KZfaq and GMS) Lucky enough I already have that HDMI to USB for my Switch to Laptop, only thing I need is the USB to Type C.

Yes, the capture card is necessary since the built-in usb port of tablets is designed to output video

For PS5 make sure to turn off HDCP in the PS5 settings. You need a capture card and the usb camera app like in the video. The PS5 though you need to turn off HDCP.

Anyone have a way or know of a wire or dongle of some sort that will do this and charge at the same time? I was thinking a y-splitter but most only do charge and data and I'm not sure if "data" includes hdmi signal.

You can use more portable docks made by third-party brands, but it will demand you to have a power supply same with the original dock

I think the cable converter is different from the capture card. If you have type C to hdmi cable, it’s main function is to display your type C device to an HDMI output device. While the capture card does the opposite of this, it serves as an hdmi input device to the tablet/phone.

@@HenryManziniReyes I tested this on two phones, one with snapdragon 732g, and an older phone with a low end mediatek processor. The 732g gives me 60fps, but the mediatek only gives me 30fps. What could be the reason for this? My capture card is supposed to output 720p resolution at 60fps. The only other variable is that the snapdragon is a type c and the mediatek is micro usb. Do specs actually matter?

@@TheManOfMuscle is the processor mainly because MtK don't have enough power to run 60, But the snapdragon yes I think is that the principal limit Micro USB could be that too but i'm not sure
