@TeddyBearItsMe If you know how the compression algorithm works, then you can ensure there is no compression performed. It's not a hash function. Just think of, for example, something like IPLWAH. If the number of zeros/ones for each 31 bit is greater than k, then you're good. So just arbitrarily add in 1s/0s to fit that criteria; and when you go from the youtube video back to the original file, remove those excess 1s/0s. You need to give it nothing to compress.

video compression is based on frame difference and pixel perception to get rid of data that is not really noticed by the user if missed that limits the max amout of data that can be stored as several frames should be redundant each other to survive compression. a extreme cae would be using a bunch of pixel in the same area like a macro pixel and then repeat it in several consecutive frames, that will reduce the capacity considering videos can be several minites long and each second have several frames it's still a very high amount of data that can be store this way. Old technology. It's basically how teletext used to work in the 1980s. You also have to keep in mind that videos on KZfaq that have a very low viewer count are downgraded in quality after some time to save on storage space. So that file you stored half a year ago might be unreadable unreadable because it's now 480p.

Data corruption is a significant, but small, risk due to compression. If there coincidentally is several bits that are black in a row within the compression macroblock, and just one is white, the Fourier-analysis based simplification that compression uses will change that pixel to black. There is also temporal compression on KZfaq, where previous frames influence future frames. You can fix this with a black frame inbetween, thoughm Still, all of this is very unlikely, and this is very creative.

I doubt this concept, although it sounds like a 2nd year CSE project, it's not that simple to achieve. Firstly, any popular video format like mp4 uses containers like H.264 that perform lossy compression on raw data, secondly, KZfaq performs their bespoke compression also. Therefore, even if the decoder tries to recover the original files from the compressed video frames there wouldn't be enough bits to fill in, hence data corruption (pigeonhole principle).

Flashback to TiVo around 2000 they'd encode promo videos for 3am TV broadcast in a data format like that. Also bought a hardware board years before that to record files to VCR tapes. So weird running coax cables for the record and play signals over to my VCR, took a long time to backup and restore. Called "Danmere Backer", LGR covered it in a vid.

It's not remotely close to 45gb/hr If you do the calculations it's literally only 10KB ( 10,800 bytes ) for 1hr which is still impressive but not big enough for it to be even considered as a storage solution

Thanks! Was looking for this comment! I could not get my head around how you would reach that kind of efficiency. As the original author writes in the repo, it's more of a party trick than an actual useful storage solution.

This is how a Sony PCM encoder worked before there was technology to put digital music on cheap media. You hook up the encoder to a VCR’s video input and record digitized sound as a moving picture, and play it back from the video output through the decoder, and into your stereo system.

But KZfaq compress the video in different formats leading to loss in pixels i.e loss in data that file stores. So most probably that file will be corrupt on changing it back to its orignal form.

I wonder if you could make a binary file and play around with file formatting to squeeze more data out of this. The frames would likely be just noise. That way all you have to do is add some bits for what the original file format is and convert. That would make converting back and forth a lot quicker.

Now there is a better way to do it: since the basic colours in everywhere are represented by 8 bit for every colour, and every pixel is RGB mix, one point in a video is 24 times more data.

You can check with students from BSc computer background

I wonder if anyone has made a version of this which isn’t just white and black but instead RGB and uses each color channel for values, perhaps compression is too harsh on colored content but still I imagine it has to be possible, and the benefits would be obvious, 3x the storage space and 3x the information speed.
@blueboytube
@blueboytube Жыл бұрын
Okay but what if we used every color available to store even more data in a single frame? Couldn’t we store like 126 ones and zeros in a single pixel? (maybe my maths is wrong but it would still help save a lot more in a single frame)
