There are few family cars as versatile as the Skoda Yeti. In this CarGurus Used Car Review Chris Knapman demonstrates exactly why that is, right down to removing the rear seats to create a van-like load area. Additionally, we explain why the Yeti is so satisfying to drive, and point out a few possible problem areas to be aware of.
Written review:
www.cargurus.co.uk/research/S...
Pros
Versatile rear seats
Good to drive
Gives the SUV look without being huge
Cons
Spare wheel eats into a lot of boot space
Petrol engines can have reliability issues
Can suffer from rust
The CarGurus verdict
The Skoda Yeti is a brilliant family car that offers many of the benefits of a modern SUV without vertiginous running costs or unmanageable dimensions, not to mention one of the most versatile and spacious interiors money can buy. It drives well, too, so you don’t have to sacrifice driver enjoyment to own one. Its reliability glitches are worth keeping in mind, but if you can find a good one that has been well looked-after, a used Yeti should still be a satisfying car to own.

I'm at 277000kms now in a 2014 2.0 TDI DSG, and yet to have any single major problem, actually have had very very little problems overall and she is very very tuned and modified. Yet to get a dash rattle too!! Currently Focus RS fast to 100kph, a few locals here know it. Dual mass fly finally starting to rattle, but expected that long long ago with all my launches.......

Never ever ever ever leave oil changes 40,000 miles! I literally change mine at least 5 times within that milage.

Manual transmission version of this car has the better durability. Compared to the drg robotic version that requires expensive maintenance and is not very durable . Buy only diesel or 1.8 gasoline. Very sensitive to our quality. Timing chain to be changed every 100th km, with lots of additional parts worth of 700$ plus the work. Dual mass flywheels to be changed depending on driving style every 200 with diesel engines . Just know and have extra for frequent maintenance

What about the dodgy DSG gearboxes? Forgot to mention? Dodgy. To say the least. 1.8 TSI drinking oil too.
@tamasvarga67
@tamasvarga67 4 жыл бұрын
Błażej Nowak What do mean ’dodgy’? I have a 2011 Yeti with DSG @170,000km no issues at all. DSG and Haldex serviced at every 60,000km - oil and filters.
@jezalb2710
@jezalb2710 4 жыл бұрын
@@tamasvarga67 numerous problems with those gearboxes. Check any good websites. DSGs are great when they work. But fail often, not always.
@tamasvarga67
@tamasvarga67 4 жыл бұрын
Błażej Nowak There are a couple of them around me with high mileage no probs but regularly serviced. Most issues go back to skipping service and/or cheap out on oil etc. Everything is possible especially on the used market. I only have good experience with it and cannot call it dodgy... it’s better than I ever imagined.

@@tamasvarga67 a lot of these gearboxes were described as gearboxes that do not require oil changes (and that was impossible even as gearboxes were sealed for life)
@tamasvarga67
@tamasvarga67 4 жыл бұрын
Błażej Nowak No, that’s absolutely incorrect... as per the service interval manual they do require oil and filter change in every 60,000km same with the Haldex in 4x4 models. If someone skips it expect problems. These services are not cheap (DSG transmission needs 5 liter expensive oil) but everybody need to decide before buying if OK with the cost of maintaining it properly.

don't buy one of the small engines unless you drive like miss daisy's driver, if you drive fast they'll be much less economical than the 2.0 tdi, the 170 biturbo diesel is rapid, give it an ecu remap and you'll be seeing golf gti's in the rear view.

Don’t buy a Yeti that’s has the diesel gate fix. The last owner more than likely traded it in for that reason. Blocked DPF, knackered EGR valve and poor mpg. Didn’t mention any of that now did he? Check for seat wear from kids, check for scuffs and scrapes. Errr, yeah ok 😩
