Using a Chevrolet Silverado With a Tailgate Pad to Haul a Mountain Bike

The Silverado is a full-size pickup that uses a size large tailgate pad. Overall, I found it a little trickier to feed the straps through the underside of the tailgate on the Silverado than I did on other pickups, but once on, the pad fit perfectly and the bike stayed put thanks to the Silverado's deep bed.

is this a curved Dakine pad or normal?

It's a normal one - non-curved. Only the F-150 and Ram 1500 warrant the curved pad. I have a video showing how poorly a non-curved pad (Dakine DLX) fits a Ram 1500 TRX. No videos with a curved pad - wish I had one to demonstrate.

Personally I would just lay the bike directly down in the box or get a hitch bike rack. Tailgate cover is a neat idea

And that would work fine for just one bike, but this method keeps the bike a little more out of harm's way as it's upright and immobilized, and allows you to carry as many as 7 bikes on a full-size pickup like the Silverado here, according to the Dakine website. Hitch racks are fine - I own a Thule T2 myself for use with my Toyota Land Cruiser - but they're more cumbersome to use and they take up significantly more space when not in use.
