Try putting an entire CPU case with all the components connected, near an ant colony and make the ants occupy it for a week. Then clean it and see if it works.

this sound crazy but I think you should try it. You should use cooking grease as thermal paste. I honestly dont know or if safe at all.

it probably has a 0 rpm mode. check to see if they spin up while the computer is under load (prime95 + furmark)
