In this video I come up with a solution to a monitor that rides on a gantry camera system. Rather than drag a cord along the answer was a battery powered monitor! I have so many drill batteries laying around it was the obvious choice.
These are some of the products you will see in this video.

If you get a monitor with an external power brick, they're usually about 19V, which is real close to the same as an 18/20V tool. battery. With that type of monitor, you wouldn't have to crack open the monitor to remove the inverter from the loop. 👍

I’m so interested in that. How long does the battery keep the monitor going for on average? That’s the only thing I would worry about it running through batteries all the time. This would be perfect though for out here in Okinawa though.

So far I have had it running for 3 hours on a 5amp hour battery. I haven't ever filmed longer than that in a direct stretch but I think I was probably getting close to needing to swap batteries.

3 hours isn’t bad. Back in the day you were lucky to get a laptop to last that long.

A couple hours is about the longest I run it before swapping batteries. I’ve never done a full battery drain test. Thanks for watching 👍🏼

Thanks! I used a 48 to 12 volt reducer. I linked the exact one I used in the description under the video.

@@HighCaliberCraftsman The voltage reducer you linked is " DC 8V-40V to 13.8V" - does 13.8 still qualify as 12v? I'm working through the build now. Thanks!

Hi goodmorning brother can i direct the battery to 12 volt monitor
@HighCaliberCraftsman

If you went inside the monitor and found the control panel I bet it would be 12v inside. That’s way above my knowledge though. Best of luck 👍🏼

😂😂 I am hoping the 5 amp hour will net me 3 hours. I never film for more than 2 hours straight so I haven't been able to test full charge run time yet.
