My experience is the opposite. I got addicted to dumb phones. Trying different models from different brands and people actually find it interesting on how a young man can survive a single day with a dumb phone. Some people actually bring me their old phones for me to try them! That for me is the best part. Recently I used a Nokia 2660 flip (mostly daily due to 4g and call quality), Nokia 105, Nokia 1112, Nokia 5310, Nokia 100, Siemens A50 and so on. I was able to switch my social media apps addiction from using them everywhere to using them only when I am at home and just for communication purposes with family abroad. I would say that's a successful journey.

That's amazing. What an opportunity to try so many phones too!

Thank you for sharing 😊 I am just starting reducing my time on social media, it's not easy, but your content is very encouraging.

What I learned from my little struggle against smartphone addiction and their tracking policies, and after testing a return to a Nokia 3310, which is way too restrictive, is: nothing beats a smartphone with a free OS (in this case Murena) and installing only a few necessary applications, social networks only on a web browser on the computer and off you go. Congratulations on your very interesting channel. Hello from France.

Merci! I will try this kind of setup on one of my older Android phones. I would also like to use an OS that doesn't have Gogle so I was thinking of LineageOS.

My experience was inconsistent because my work requires me to be on Facebook Messenger, Microsoft Teams and have email access even on the go. I do however, change it up a bit on non working holidays and the weekends. The experience also made me discover the amount of old devices you still can use today.

Thanks for sharing and I get it for the work obligations. I am always switching up my devices. Nothing is perfect but we are all just trying to get time back where we can.

How do you define a dumb phone? I use a BlackBerry Key2 as my daily driver, yet I would in no way consider it a minimalist device. My banking app no longer works, but I can easily access it via the website. I don't watch TV, movies, play games, or take photos, but I do use X, Instagram, and some Facebook. I use e-mail for personal and news purposes. I don't think using a dumb phone would resolve my excessive use of technology for the purposes mentioned above.

I think any phone can be a dumb phone. I just had to learn to get off social media and that took 9 months of deleting each app one at a time. I used dumb phones like Nokia's and even my BlackBerry Q10 but ultimately it was giving up social media that allows me to use any device now without getting sucked in for hours unnecessarily.

@@LauraMalvoyante Yes, I think your point is correct. It's the apps, especially social media, rather than the type of phone that are addictive.

I seperated my entertainment from my main laptop to my 2nd laptop, it takes a while to boot unlike a mobile device that is able to open instantly so more time to think, I use it to either watch anime or go on youtube and reddit lol I have spent less time procrastinating ever since I did that

This is a great idea. My tablet is too easy to access and I'm struggling with it like my smartphone. I may get a second laptop/chromebook for entertainment too. I can't be trusted with easy to use devices...
