In this video, Matt, who has type 1 diabetes, shares what it’s been like in the first year of using the Freestyle Libre 2 He talks about the changes it’s had on the way he looks after his diabetes - along with changes to his blood sugar levels and HBA1c and hypo awareness. He also talks about when and why he still sometimes does finger prick tests.

my dad had pancreatic cancer, had his whole pancreas, spleen and gall blader removed along with a few other complications, monitoring his blood sugar is a constant juggling job XD would love to get him on something like this

i have libre too. i found it affordable with nightrider blucon, i know libre price varies from country to country, though i keep extra penny to get the libre as blucon as reusable, with time both of the devices has helped me to know how my blood sugars vary and what activities leads to hi/low of my glucose. and finger pricking is when i doubt so less scans using phone app and less pricks with diabetes continuous monitoring devices

Good video. Would be interesting to hear how the Freestyle Libre 2 is fitted to the arm and how it works? How is the blood sugar reading taken, is it a mini-needle inside the arm gadget or non-invasive?

I am on week 2 of using the Libre 2. Already i have found it revolutionary. I have seen much better control of my blood sugars and find myself understanding better how i react to foods which is helping me to alter my diet accordingly. I am hoping long term to use this to help me better manage my weight. The only thing i have struggled with is the sensor. The first one was applied by my practice nurse and i don't think she pressed hard enough when applying it bless her. It came off of its own accord so i had to put a new one on. The 2nd sensor was way more firm and everything was going great until i caught it and it came off. It was so well attached that it hurt when i did it. So 3rd sensor on in a week. Feels secure, readings are fine and i love it 😊 So a few teething probs but I'm getting there👌🏻👌🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻😂😂😂

1. Do smart watch with NFC function can be used to scan libre 2?

Hi Husain, you may be able to link a smartwatch to a CGM or flash glucose monitor (read more further down). But we would not recommend any of the smartwatches that are intended to be used without a sensor attached to the body. They are sometimes called non-invasive blood glucose smartwatches. Although there has been some promising research from companies developing prototypes that may become available in the future, we’ve read about cheaper smartwatches that claim to measure blood glucose being sold online. These do not have to go through the same testing in trials as medical devices so we don’t know that they are accurate and they aren’t medically approved, so we would not recommend them. Take care!

How expensive is it to monitor your blood sugars over a long period. Do you have to keep buying equipment etc.

Good luck if your phone upgrades in operating system! My iPhone upgraded to 7.4. I’ve been checking their compatibility guide. It only works up to 7.3.03. So it’s useless

I feel like thyroid is also another one more serious issue and needs much attention as diabetes. 24 hours thyroid hormones monitor is also needed like diabetes. People with thyroid can have problem between balancing hyperthyroidism and hypothyroidism.

I have hypothyroidism and Addisons and have been recently been diagnosed diabetic. My addisons and hypothyroidism I had under control but now I’m diabetic it’s trying to get my insulin to balance with my other meds. They are both important no condition is more important than another. Diabetes has life threatening complications that can happen without insulin etc same as Hypothyroidism by sounds of it you need to talk to talk to your endocrinologist if your thyroid meds are not helping you keep it under control and try balancing hypothyroidism and Addisons and diabetes it’s at the moment a long process but once I get sorted I will be okay. I have this on my arm and it’s good cos goes straight to my diabetic specialist so they know how I’m feeling etc but I still use my meter as there is a lag but it’s good it out as don’t have to pull blood sugar meter out all the time

They're automatically given out here in the UK, you have to meet a certain criteria to be approved for a trial, the trial has to prove that it's improving your blood sugars, if that goes well the Diabetes specialist writes to The General Medical Council to ask for approval, if the General Medical Council does approve it, they then write to your GP to ask for funding. You only get it on prescription if your GP agrees to spend some of their budget on the sensors. The whole process can take up to 6 months !!

I would love to know how you achieve an HAb1c 48. Despite using this I've never been able to get anywhere near.

Hi there, an HbA1c result of 48mmol/mol is an ideal target but everyone's different. Your healthcare team may give you an individual target range due to your specific needs, such as, if you are on one or multiple diabetes medications. Mine is always 20-50 points lower on the Libra 2 than it is in real life using both of my finger prick meters, which will make the deafening low blood sugar alarm go off way to often, that issue and the fact that it cant be calibrated or have the volume controlled OR dis abled.., make this unusable for me. I purchased a 3 month supply... money wasted. I do not recomend. (Type 1 insulin dependent for 33 years)

My father was visiting, he’s usually up around 7, at noon I got worried, he was comatose, called the ambulance, his sugar was .7, was released the next day, so I went and got him a libre 2, I was gonna get up every 2 hours to check on him, but the machine had a warning you can set anywhere, so great, I had a fairly good sleep, I thought because he had that machine everything was fine, at 10:00 I went into the bedroom, yup was rolled up, couldnt talk, flailing around, couldn’t move his left side, grabbed the LIBRE 2, error, it could of killed my father,ambulance again, bs 0.7 AGAIN, since that second 0.7 incident he stares into space, which he never did before, so I am very bitter at Libre 2, I was very upset with this machine, and just want people to be very cautious…..

Hi Luzviminda, the cost of Freestyle Libre 2 sensors is around £50 every 2 weeks. If you have a compatible smartphone you can just download the app and use your phone to scan the sensor to see the readings. But if you don’t, you can buy a small device called a reader for around £50 and this is a one-off purchase. Speak to your healthcare professional about where you can buy a reader from - they can be available direct from the manufacturer (Abbott), from a pharmacy or online but this can change. Same here, in the UK! I don't qualify for it with our NHS - National Health Service - and don't know anyone else who does. It defiantly was great when I tried it for 2 months, but too expensive, £100 for the digital monitor, then £54 for each small sensor which only last for TWO weeks. If you knock one of your arm accidentally - easy to do - it can not be reattached... so you have to pay for a new one. I use NHS test strips, but I'd like the NHS to use the money they spend on those towards this more expensive system instead, and I could pay the difference myself.

@@junaidmehsudvlog8833 It sounds like your meter doesn't work properly? I have a "4SURE Smart" meter which works well. I test around 2 to 4 times a day, I couldn't manage without a meter, it would be impossible to know what my sugar levels where before feeling ill.
