i got called an idiot by a few swat guys when i said you should search with a light around people instead of pointing your weapon at a bunch of innocents and just have your pistol ready in your other hand . now i feel vindicated that one of the best instructors around agrees.

When are you ever going to be searching around for a threat? The only time you’d do that is during in active threat, in which case a weapon mounted light is 100x superior.

Thanks God for for cops...but...not necessarily the brightness bunch. That type of thinking is why cops should not be issued Glocks. Too easy to pop off a round inadvertently since they WANT to shoot someone, bad guy preferably.

@@joncampo1627 domestic instance where the person breaking in is a defiant teenager, friend of a child, etc. plenty of reasons we shouldn’t walk around pointing loaded guns at people we’ve yet to identify

Back to the level of training, i guess. We know the controversial "1 round in chamber."

Great tips thanks! For anyone looking to buy the cord he used it's called shock cord. It can be purchased online or most bigger camping stores.

A few techniques that I had not heard of here. I'm going to try them all. One technique that I never see mentioned which is actually my favorite is a simple cigar hold on the light with pistol placed over the top and the backs of the hands pressed together.

Try it in low light or darkness and see what works best for you. Practice makes perfect.

It’s not advisable for Identifying possibly threats. Too many legal cases of people getting aggravated assault charges because they pointed their gun at someone who they shouldn’t have.

I respect and like Kyle Lamb but “Gonna put the light by their head so they get shot in the face” instead put it in front of your face like me. Mmmm Most LEOs search using a hand held unless the threat level warrants it. I’m not gonna search a house where people live but I will change tactics if I’m on a manhunt in an empty warehouse where no one should be at night. Different problems different solutions. Depends on the call. A lot of lights have a lanyard we use similar to the bungee. It’s a good tip.

Same here. I am a no name nobody. And I have never taken a class with Mr. Lamb. But I have taken a class with Mike Pannone, who advocates for a much simpler temple index of the light. He was also D. And he also has a Surefire YT video that advocates the temple index. I find the temple/cheek index very useful in everyday situations, especially just walking my dogs at night. I am always looking for cats and skunks and what not when walking my dogs. The other benefit that Pannone states for using the temple/cheek index is it illuminates your sites as well as your target. And another drawback to using the Harries technique is interrogating a treeline or row of cars (parking lot), or the long side of a building, to your strong side. IE, it is pretty easy to aim across your body with the Harries technique. But it is super awkward to do so if you needed to perform that same interrogation going the opposite way. Try it. Also, I use the Surefire Tactician. It is always momentary on unless you fully twist on the tailcap. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/Y9BnebCbm9HGmZ8.html

@@pehenry Yes. I like Travis Haley's approach where he uses everything and incorporates it with erratic movement and lighting direction. Admittedly you can't do Haley's approach for normal utility or you will look silly, but I do find it effective when you know you are probably going to be in a fight. Once you turn on a light at all, everyone in the area is going to be alert to your presence, at that point you have to have mobility and choose your paths carefully like room clearing to limit the amounts of threats you have to deal with at once. In force on force, the erratic usage of light does sometimes have the effect of simulating multiple people, which his also pretty cool as a bad guy probably is more likely to flee if he thinks he has to deal with multiple people.
