One very effective method of finding arrowheads that we use is probing. You may have see us in past videos use it. Matthew and Chris have been using it with great success as the crops get too high to see any bare ground. Come along and watch for yourself. Matthew gives a great description of the site they are on and even tells you how he made the probe he is using.

I have done some probing on a lake bed and we used those four pronged garden cultivators with the tines straightened like a little fork. You can poke four holes at a time and cover a lot more territory.

I have been hunting artifacts before I could spell it. Grew up on a truck patch farm with a Great Uncle, a pure country man. He was a artifact addict! My chores are piling up. Haven't even got all my wood split for winter! We haven't had much water and it's been very productive on a large creek near me. I been trying to deer hunt but when I get near the creek, my eyes go to the cut bank and shoal areas. Some people wouldn't understand that I guess. I love seeing you fellers score! I usually learn something on each video.

A good friend of mine, god rest his soul, the first time we went point hunting was to look for the rise when looking in fields. This guy was a points worst nightmare! I swear he could find a point on the moon if he could get a ride there!

I read the comments and I don't like to repeat what's already been said but I've gotta say the editing was topnotch Spike 👍👍 I learned awhile back from your videos that probing works to find old gravel bars in creeks and it's working well plus I've learned that a worked piece of stone can make a distinctly different sound, but I still dig everything 😉 Great finds guys PS; has Matthew ever broken a tip or a camera 😂

I wonder if a wider probe, shaped more like an axe head, or a fork, might be better? Many times the area, same amount of probing.
@HeartbreakerRelics
@HeartbreakerRelics 10 ай бұрын
The short answer is no. The more surface area you have, more points on a probe (fork) or a blade, the more resistance you have pushing it into the ground and the less penetration you get.

Have y’all considered making a 3 or 4 prong probe with a single on other end. Similar to spikes rack probe. More points More holes, more holes more points
@HeartbreakerRelics
@HeartbreakerRelics 10 ай бұрын
Yes, I've considered it but with more points you get less penetration.

It seems viable to me that this probe can work in a sandy place, where there is no stone so that the stone it hits will almost certainly be a point. Here with us it is even more reliable to search on the surface. The places where we search have a lot of small stones under the sand and in other places under the sand it is very hard. Soon we will dig to see different options. According to the characteristics of the area, it will be the way we search. Greetings to my friends and the tips they found are my favorites because of the type of stem and base.
@HeartbreakerRelics
@HeartbreakerRelics 10 ай бұрын
You are right. In areas with lots of stone it isn't helpful at all. Take care my friend.

Why are there so many arrowheads? Why didnt the indians go get the arrows that they shot to use over again? I always try to find any of the arrow with arrowheads that I shoot, I dont leave them. Why did the indians leave their arrows on the ground after they shot?

Most of what you see are actually used up knives or dart/spear points. We are hunting campsites and apparently they didn't put a lot of value on tools. They left a lot behind every time they moved. They probably weren't the best housekeepers either and lost a lot in the leaves.
