coming here after seeing a shamisen bachi used on bass in Bocchi the Rock, definitely interesting to see it in action!

It seems like an ice scraper for your car windows would have been a suitable stand in for that plectrum. :)

I think that 6 String 3 Course Bss/Guitar Hybrid strung w/ 3 Course Bouzouki Strings would've sounded great w/ that type of Plectrum. Fun fact you get quite alot of Rich overtones.

Now that you've done this, you could try using a sanshin pick. Sanshin is basically the same thing as shamisen, but the type of plectrum used is different: it's thicc and you stick your finger inside. Personally I tried playing guitar with it once, it felt really clunky. Somehow a guitar pick on sanshin also feels clunky... I'm not sure if that has implications on the "philosophy" of instruments and their plectrums.

Did you know that they made Fretted Versions of the Shamisen too? The frets add precision to the finger placement.

Very cool! I would watch some videos about bachi technique. The main thing is that it should be an up and down motion (straight toward the string and away), not a side-to side strumming motion like you are doing here. The wrist should be bent almost to 90 degrees and the motion is really just a twisting of your forearm, actually just like proper slap bass technique. The tip of the bachi then contacts the strings and continues on to follow through and past it, hitting the top of the shamisen skin (or guitar body surface)

The awesome guy running the tokyo lens channel knows how to use these and has some so I guess maybe he could play guitar better with these.

As much as I tried, I could NOT find any Ukulele like the one you played. The most similar I found was an eletric fretless bass-ukulele, but not a single fretless regular baritone ukulele, eletric or not. Where can I find that?

I reckon you've made the handle too thick. Try thinning it out a little and rounding the edges, I suspect it will be easier on your hand.

I'm just piping in to say the tunings were a little incorrect, C-F-C Is standard Honchoushi. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shamisen#Tuning I've seen folk who use a central "sharpened" Acrylic "blade" and the remaining thickness is a pair of 3D printed pieces for The handle. I wonder if it'll hold up better to the thick bass strings. Short of using "vase-mode", I imagine they just need enough structural integrity to be gripped, and screwed together through the acrylic, ideally be quick and cheap to print. The nearest to the Bachi would be one used on the SanShin, Like a horn for your finger. Or those used in the Asia zither (JP Koto, KR Gayageum or CN Gu Zheng) or Pipa (Since The Japanese version, The Biwa, is more like a super wide Shamisen Bachi), Like Little paddles attached to your fingers to play.

Hey Kevin, would it be possible for you to create a short composition or musical idea that shows the idea you're exploring? I appreciate what you do, but it's really hard to listen to you aimlessly noodling video after video. Cheers!
