Жыл бұрын

A presentation on decoding animal language by Aza Raskin, followed by a panel discussion hosted at the World Economic Forum in San Francisco on October 25, 2022 exploring how AI is expanding our ability to understand other species and the benefits and potential challenges that this new understanding will bring.
Featuring Kay Firth-Butterfield, Head of AI at the WEF; Aza Raskin, President and Cofounder, Earth Species Project; Dr. Karen Bakker, Professor at University of British Columbia and Fellow at Harvard Ratcliffe Institute; Dr. Ari Friedlaender, Professor at University of California, Santa Cruz

In the years to come, people will look back and appreciate this fundamental and profound discussion about our communication with other species on this planet even more. That is, if we don't manage to get ourselves into extinction. It is crucial to apply scientific methodologies for the well-being of all people, without exception, and without ecological harm.

Similarly, the cloning of extinct species through fossil remains as such a move large scale if uncontrolled, may result in the resurgence of ancient diseases that eliminated the prehistoric species and posing a ecological to the present species and even humans. So, whilst, artificial intelligence will offer enormous advantages to scientific problem solving, we must be cautious of impending dangers of misuse.

Wow wowowo wow. I already talk about this kind of stuff without even realizing how far this has advanced. I will be talking about this alot! I am a sponge absorbing this kind of information... I watched this once but I think I could present half this stuff from memory (stumbling and not sounding like an expert but I'd sure be able to vonvey half the key concepts/examples. Blows my mind!

47:00 We already have means to understand each other as humans and we still don't preserve everybody's cultures and ways of life. It won't be any different if we start understanding other species.

I think we are going to learn a treasure trove of things which were oblivious to us, by translating animal speech. This is going to jumpstart an exponential knowledge explosion in understanding our world. Now we have only a handful of humans(~8 billion) collecting data, here just imagine what 20 quintillion interpreters(animals) can do.

I have been resistant and a bit fearful of AI. But because I love animals so much, discovering this is my first time being interested in AI. It would be intriguing to communicate with animals. However recently I heard of a group of individuals who were high,at the time, playing the sound of owls to call them near... during mating season. It's my understanding they were aware that since it was mating season they should not do it too long. This made me concerned that, although they were at least a little aware, some other person or group may not be as responsible. So I'm still a little hesitant to get too excited about all this. I'm, again, concerned this could get in the wrong hands and cause harm to our animal friends.

Every hunter is anxiously waiting for the 'VocalEyes'-app. It's telling the moose/deer/buck/boar: "Come into the clearing! No danger here. I'm willing to mate!" Lots of new/old dangers arising for our co-terrans.

@@prosperouseyeI'm really sorry. i'm a cynical pessimistic. That app? I made it up, of course! AI really has the potential to do so much good and solve some of the most pressing problems of humankind/environment interaction! The fact alone that there are people working on interspecies communication is reason for a more positve outlook on our future. This was just me being frustrated about my personal life projecting onto the world. I'm sure there will be AI apps for hunters. Telling them about populations. When not to hunt. Analyzing animal behaviour in combination with data from the forest service and other app users for the benefit of sustainable hunting/population control. I really liked your comment and overall positivity!🙂

You love animals, think you're rare? Nope many of us love animals and I especially love wild animals, I don't think I or you or this man has the right to treat them like a pet or a another animal in this global zoo, so we can spy on them 24/7. No one is communicating with them, they are connecting them to the IoBNT, tracking & spying on them they can also control them via sound frequency as they can humans, but hey don't be concerned with triviality like bio sensors everywhere, thanks to 40 yrs of dumping aerosols in our environment.. Don't worry no one would ever use it for their own profit and benefit, the WEF is very honourable ... " You will own nothing and be happy " No privacy not 4 you or me or for wild animals. "Humans are now hackable animals. The whole idea that humans have this 'soul' or 'spirit', and nobody knows what's happening inside them, and they have free will-that's over." "This is so profoundly beautiful, at a time of such division there is such a underlying stucture that connects us all." Quote Aza Raskin I like that. I also am happy you finally did something with machine lernign/A.I. (you as in the research world, it was waaaaaaay overdue and is still not used most are not and massive problems in methodology still exist. Its insane. Altho that is great. Also massive biases exist mostly because of misaligned insentives/punishment (passive) AND a lack of sertain premises or wrong orgiented premises that lead to different hypothesis/methodologys/attention of X instead of Y

ok that's it. 1:06:16 you need data sharing, I think a big portion of people can contribute to earth species project. but first, the western world should stop making wars. stop dividing people into north and south. stop ego. respect non western societies. of course I'm addressing politicians and only arrogant western citizens, not all.

do that, and hundreds of thousands, say millions, say billions of new people whom you never thought will, will come to help tomorrow, because this relates to poverty indirectly. don't just listen to bbc, cnn, fox news, and alike. their bias I mean. There is another voice there. and it takes minimal effort to hear it.
