Bob I run only 150 hives. I had high losses 2022/2023. I used this season Russian products. Spring Apidez Summer busanar 3x End of summer ekopol. Fall 2 x amitraz Winter 1 x amitraz security treatment .... So far no losses. Only few where the queens were missing. Bisanar seems to be effective and I llan to swap from dribble to fumigation.

This video would have been helpful about a month ago. I lost a little over 20% when I gave full dose and tells where in the 90s. I had one colony with 7 in the wash, all the others had 0-3 in the wash. I killed some good queens. I’m excited to here you speak in person at the hive life conference. Thanks for all your great videos.

Apiguard worked very good for me last august. I did the dosage like you did. Years ago with full dosage i would have 3-4 colonies abscond and others all out on front. The reduced dosage seems like it don't bother the bees at all. Also great to see some cutting up amongst y'all in video. Thank you for your work!!

I use to use apiguard in much the same way in fall and early spring had good results. Learned a hard lesson about using it in the hot Florida summers though.

I like apiguard. I used apivar and my counts after treatment was 28/300. So I used OA vape to get mites on bees and did 2 treatments of apigusrd and the bees are beautiful. I will do OA vape again. I had huge mite drop with apiguard. Wonderful.

I’ve been following your advice from last years video using apivar to get the bees ready. I appreciate the apiguard video as well so I can switch it up.

This stuff IS the Platinum bullet to Mite drops. Pull the last of honey for the season, I do early 7 am yard treatments, it is difficult to time. Because it ruins the honey and you don't dare pull it afterward for a long time! Especially timing it before the temp changes in September. I wear a Tyvex suit , Moldex FULL FACE with a P100 and NIOSH rated Organic vapors cartridge or you will end up with long term lung damage from this stuff in the future. Ask me. I know. We try to keep it in an Ice chest and Cool helps slow down that vapor "flash off". from the gel.

We are just pulling our supers off this weekend. We have a section of 2nd cut alfalfa on one side of our apiary and a lake on the other side so we have a great food source. Most apiaries in our area or northern alberta are in dearth . Knock on wood we have a great rancher that allows us to house our apiary on his 25000 acre ranch. Great video guys!

It may be cheaper to use Dawn Ultra Dish soap (clear soap). Randy Oliver had great success with this and it's much more plentiful than rubbing alcohol these days. Switched to this new method of monitoring.

I bought those same frame feeders after seeing it on your videos. Boy do they work slick. Sure beats those small jars I was using.

This process of shaking bees make me cringe. The day when we don’t need to treat for mites will come. I split very aggressively for the brood breaks of 21 days or so. This helps drastically with the mites.

Question. I have some double nucs 2-3 deep with 4 frames per box. How much do you think I should use? I'm at 8-12 frames per colony. I've never used it before. Then after watching you adjust for size box and temperature. I'm just not sure what the heck I'm doing. I don't want to have them all take off. The temperature is fine, we're back to 70-84 for the high. I've learned a lot from you. KZfaq is great. We all get to learn from people with great knowledge and experience. Hopefully bypassing so many mistakes as a new bee keeper. Thank you for putting in the time to making the videos. You've gotten pretty good at it.

I'm looking to put my 2nd full dose of apigaurd on Tuesday being as the following week is below 80 degrees and in high 70s. How long should I leave this second one on for and can I super up after a period of time to try to get a golden rod flow. We have a 100 acres of goldenrod around my hives and I was hoping to nab a little bit since I didn't get any honey this year as I was in split and expansion mode utilizing all that information you taught me with these videos!!

Hi Bob, When you use a 50% dose of Apiguard because of high temperatures, when do you follow up with the other 50% dose? And after following up with the other 50% dose, do you do another dose to finish off the treatment? Again temperatures cooperating you could do the full dose or two more half doses. Follow up question Bob. Need your help. Six days ago, on a 55 degree day, I gave an OAV treatment because I was seeing a few mites on my bottom pest tray. Two days after treatment I counted 249 dead adult mites. Following day I counted 159 adults mites. Following day there were 137-mix of adults and white infants. . Today, which is six days after treatment, I counted 97; a lot of which were smaller and white infant mites. Are these numbers alarming? Would you do another treatment in a couple weeks, or could these numbers be fall offs from VSH cleaning? Thank you.

Hey Bob I hope all is well. I'm in central AR and pulled honey on the 4th and did an alcohol wash and had averaged 8 to 12 mites per 300 on my colonies which is way above where I need to be. I used Apivar prior to this and I don't think it did the trick. We are having a bad heat wave here with high humidity; temperatures consistently 95 to 100 with no end in site. My main question is I really want to use Apiguard, but boy I'm afraid even a 1/2 dose might be too much with this heat (Running double deeps with brood super put on after honey extraction). With that being said I feel like I really need to treat with these current mite numbers, so I'm thinking of Oxalic acid now and then Oxalic acid again in the broodless period end of Nov 1st part of Dec. Also not much here in the way of end of summer flow or fall flow we get a mild amount of goldenrod but it's nothing to write home about. I would greatly value your opinion on my current situation. Thank you for all of the videos and all of the advice it is greatly appreciated!

Thank you for these great videos. So it sounds like you try and give 50 grams once a week for two weeks. If needed, you will add a third dose? I’ve been using 1/2 a tray of Apiguard (~25 grams) with mixed results. Some mite counts go up and some go down even after 4 weekly treatments. It’s been hot in the Piedmont of NC.

Bob, I've got nothing against alcohol washes but I've never tried one, because I hate "wasting" bees and I hate that I might kill a queen. I've been using sugar rolls, trying to do it the same way every time so it's consistent enough to compare. What do YOU think of sugar rolls?

Would you consider treating with Formic Acid since it is similar to the Apiguard treatment? Or do you feel you get better results with Apiguard?

Drone frame in every colony? Will that help draw worker foundation more true? Goldenrod flow is heavy this year in my area, filling frames fast and nucs drawing foundation. I usually have to feed by September15th when the flow finally starts but this year it bloomed four weeks early.

I presume this 3kg tub is the same as the small 50g trays made by Vita. I have alway stuck to the "no feed" while applying, You havbe good success rate while feeding?. Its always an issue for me as everything end of summer is done at the same time, remove honey, feed, treat, but it can take six weeks to treat. I maybe just try feed while treat and see results.

Hi Bob, I noticed you were putting your treatment on the second brood box. I’m assuming you were targeting the brood? I know the bees will remove all of the treatment. So if your hive has brood in both boxes will the bottom brood box receive enough treatment to kill the mites? Thanks Moe

If you don't mind I'd like your opinion on this. When I mite wash if possible I sample frames that have high numbers of newly emerged bees and bees actively emerging. My thoughts are that it the best way to sample the level of mites in the brood vs on the bees. Curious if you've conpared that method vs open brood?

Question- what is your experience with higher mite loads and thymol (in 1.5's or doubles)? They are washing 4 to 6 per 300, and I am a month late. Just put on 50 grams today, just trying to decide if I should come back in 7, 10, or 14 days with another 50. Then move on, or do a third round. I plan on hitting with Amitraz after this, but was curious what you would do.

Better to swirl with the mite wash rather than shake up and down so the mites can sink.
