This is a great lesson. Nothing else on KZfaq I could find explained it so simply, the graphics were great too!

When you said "try to get from tonic to tonic" it clicked for me. It gave me a target. I had been trying to get from caged shape to shape with scales. This is a great approach.

Starting to figure it out. Thanks to your video, and others, it’s starting to make some sense. But you have explained well the Scale Patterns built around the CAGED system. Thanks!

Makes perfect sense if you have some previous theory knowledge. I followed this and it all made good sense, but I can see how others might struggle with no background in how keys and scales are constructed.

Wow, love the visual diagrams! It would really hit home to actually hear a note or 2 played along with some of the visuals. But then again, I don't have my guitar with me as I write this. Oh well. Thanks for the lesson!

The biggest reason people complain about not understanding any of this is because the dont take the time to start from the beginning then to this music theory is like a big book you need to read beginning to end you wouldn't start a book half way expecting to get the bigger picture and understanding of the end and conclusion would you? So do your research we live in a digital advanced age of endless free knowledge! I already understand this system along with 3nps as well I think the visual display and pictograms was very useful as a visual aide to further demonstrate the magic of the caged system and its layers excellent video!! :)

Nice explanation, but I felt you rushed at the end of video, I can see how people could get confused if they don't understand the concepts. If you can learn it though, it's the best way to learn the guitar. Once you realise the pentatonic shapes are just a slightly reduced major / minor scale, it will start to click. .

I am watching billions of caged videos over and over again but still can't grasp the actual tiny tiny details missing that would make me understand it fully. How am i supposed to "see" a shape when playing a scale and changing fingerings? (I am a pianist and I know the theory but...it just doesn't click here)
@graylensman25208 жыл бұрын
find secret guitar teacher, best explanation of the CAGED system that I found any where.

Watching it now! Thanks for the lead))

I'd recommend trying to hear it before you see it. Also, a scale is nothing more than the underlay for your expression. It simply provides you with a suggestion as to what's available. Try not to rely on the shapes, hear something that sounds good to you and figure out how to play it. Then use the shapes to figure out how to play it all over the fretboard. Do this enough and you begin to hear and see it while playing.
@MIOGI1238 жыл бұрын
Try not looking at the shape in the scale but using the shapes as reference point to where your scales are interacting...The shapes are simply common chords that guitarist all know at the lower end of the fret board in different locations of the fret board....that spell out caged....even though in there new locations they are different chords......if you are a pianist in may not mean as much....the are simply reference points to help on keep organized with building a major scale.......The video actually helped this man a lot.

Why is this so difficult to understand
@Nirond7 жыл бұрын
it is difficult because he is turning around and around around if you know what i mean, if he was explain the way it should be could turn it in very very easy way! the only thing that i guitarist should know is: Tone Tone semi Tone Tone Tone Tone semi Tone , sequence of intervals that you should know by heart, you can call this as DO RE ME FA SOL LA TI DO or 1234567 :D

Beginner guitarist .. Please don't look at this and be overwhelmed....it is the way its being presented that is confusing.... No disrespect to the author... the effort is appreciated.... but it can be explained in a more defined structured manner.... in spite of that.... the caged system will open up understanding of the guitar.....look for other teachings.... Desi Serna would be a great teacher to learn it from....
