Using Cheap Power Strips In Your Audio System

Күн бұрынWe see it all the time: 10-20K+ systems and all being fed to a simple power strip as a convenience to get to the wall. We've even walked into situations where McIntosh Amplifiers and Integrated Amps are connected to a $10 power strip.

As an electrician, I have seen two fires 🔥 start because of cheap power strips as such. If you take them apart there’s some type of resistor type device between the hot and neutral. And that’s it. Not worth the fire risk for me. Better to spend about $50 - $75 and get something of quality. 😊

That is a thermistor. It shunts surges. They are about 10 bucks for 200 pounds of them. Nasty noisy little devils too.

Recommendations for a mcintosh mc2500? It will be on its own dedicated breaker. Gfci and afci breaker perhaps? Or just a regular breaker? Im trying to keep from unplugging it all the time. But i do want it protected

There are units now that protect the entire panel and I would look into those.
