I think a better option is to fill the concrete blocks with sand. love your show.

Yeah that is an interesting option. I wonder if Henry was worried about moisture or it still have too much room for air to get through. Sand by nature has space between little bits of sand. Thanks for watching!

@@soundproofyourstudio if sound gets thru air gaps even the smallest of gaps is then foam better than denser heavier mass sand?

Not having ventilation. I would be worried about instruments / gear experiencing humidity or high to low temperature changes. Sick build though. That’s what I want to do!!! Want my own studio so bad!!! One day. Also nice walkthrough.

Yeah I didn't have ventilation for a year and it was okay with humidity and temps. Really its the C02 and just quality of the air you are worried about. Thanks for watching.

A mini-split or two will fix the ventilation and then you want a dehumidifier for the studio. If you have acoustic guitars though you want to keep them in an area separate from the dehumidifier as they need some humidity to keep the wood from cracking.

My house is fairly air tight, when I turn off my whole house ventilation system, it feels hard to breathe after a while. He’s gonna have to open the door constantly in that small space

Random question here, maybe real stupid/novice. So I want to enclose my garage door to make a jam room/ drum room/ family entertainment movie room. But I still want daylight, convenient entry, etc. I was wondering if I take garage door off, then I make a double wall, with 3 inch gap in between, but I want two glass French doors centered respectively where garage door is on both walls. So that would be four exterior French doors total. I think daylight and entry will be covered, but don’t know if I will block enough sound from going out to my neighbors. I’m also wanting to put rock wool sound insulation on exterior garage wall, making a second wall in front of that exterior wall, and possibly around the rest of the garage walls. What do you think about the double French door walls, will it be enough?

Hey Daniel! Cool project. The double french doors might be enough if you have the right type of glass and it is thick enough. Tempered and Laminate glass is best for soundproofing and the thicker the better. The glass thickness should roughly correlate to the mass of your walls. Another option is buying soundproof glass doors from a company like Overly Doors. I'm not sure I follow you about building a wall around your existing garage and I don't recommend rock wool since it is expensive and regular insulation works just as well. Best of luck!

What's the reason for that white board/panel that the mini split is on?
@soundproofyourstudio
@soundproofyourstudio 2 жыл бұрын
@Mountain123 that is the best way to install the mini split with the two layers of drywall. This way you don't have to try and put the mini split in after the drywall is finished which can be really challenging. Thanks for watching!

@@soundproofyourstudio Oh I see you routed the hose through the inside of the studio some ways before finally putting it through the walls. What was it about the spot that you choose to put it through the walls versus anywhere else? And wouldn't you have had to drill through the double layer drywall there as well?

If you are going to build a roof like that make sure you know what you are doing. I am not a expert but that roof design is the same as my house, which for some reason did not vent properly. I tore out the ceiling to find trapped moisture and rotten parts of my roof. It is crucial to have a decent pitch to the roof and an adequate cold space for air flow. Also I can't remember where I read this but I believe in Ireland they banned this style of flat roof altogether due to issues. In the end I had an engineer recomend I spray foam my flat roof (with gradual pitch) and make it an unventialted space rather than try to make that style of flat roof work. Could be though that in certain climate zones this is totally fine, I'm in Central Canada and go through freezing winters. Would not buy another house with this style of roof.

The builder is responsible for the roof design, but this one is not flat. It does have an angle. I believe the ventilation should still work just fine.

Most Spray foams are poor acoustic insulators. They are also low mass so not good for low frequency attenuation. Filling the blocks with sand or mortar is a standard practice.

I agree. That was what the contractor did and I would advise sand is ideal.
