Using CONSTRUCTION PLANES in Fusion 360 - 8 Kinds of Construction Planes

4 жыл бұрын

In today’s video, we’re going to check out some of the tools contained inside of Fusion 360 for creating construction planes inside of your models.
These planes can be used basically as guides for object creation inside of Fusion 360.
Let’s take a look at some of our options for different kinds of construction planes that we can use inside of Fusion 360.
The first, and simplest, is the offset plane - you can use this to set a guide plane a set distance from an object inside of your model. For example - say you wanted to add a recess in this object a few inches down - you could create your offset plane at that distance, then use it as a sketch plane to sketch your recess.
The second option - plane at angle, allows you to create a plane at an angle to an edge that you select. This can be very helpful for creating objects that intersect with other objects inside of Fusion 360
The tangent plane option allows you to create a plane at a tangent to a curved face. This can be really helpful for adding geometry to a curving surface. By setting a reference plane, you can align your tangent plane with another face - you can use this as a base for your tangent plane, or then adjust this by another number of degrees.
The midplane will find the central plane between two different faces. Note that this will only work on flat faces, but can be used to find the difference from an angle perspective between two planes.
Plane between two edges allows you to create a plane that runs between two straight edges. This can be really helpful when you don’t know the angle that you want your plane to run along, but you do have some reference edges.
Plane between three points works very similarly to plane between two edges, but is a much better fit during times that you don’t have two edges to work with.
Plane tangent to face at point allows you to use a reference point to set the angle of a tangent plane on a curved surface.
Finally - plane along path allows you to create a plane perpendicular to a path. This can be especially useful if you want to create a profile that’s extruded along a path with the sweep tool, and also opens up some interesting options with the loft tool as well.

Thank you for simplifying planes, I have heard and seen planes in other tutorials as a quick 'just create a plane' then they add whatever to it. Generally why and what type of plane is not mentioned. This has enabled me to correct 'guesswork' in some of my models to make them more accurate.

Great share - planes are essential to designing anything real(!) 2 problems I need help with. 1. Sometimes the plane orange representation rectangle gets created REALLY small - and I have to zoom REALLY far in - like, comically - to find it later on. Also, plane is created way off to the side. 2. If you are working on one of the three major planes, and use orbit to look around at your design, you can just click the magic cube in the upper right to get the view back to a major plane. When you orbit around on a new whacky plane, how do you get the view to be "normal" to the plane, i.e. 90 degrees? Any help appreciated.

really good video; I'm not sure how to add another sketch for the circular part, I went back to the beginning to add it in already used the control key on both shapes to extrude them. before I extruded one shape, then other one disappears???? guess I'm still too new to figure that out and why it does that.

Hi Justin I am amazed of your presentation But I don't understand what is the difference done by plane along path, in the time the sketch drawn in the perpendicular plane gets the target???

I have a seat for a chair that I am drawing in 360...how would you draw a complex angle? Where (for instance) a hole needs to be drilled for a spindle that angles back and to the left (think of a chair back for a Windsor chair). Basically, can you draw a angled plane on one axis, then change the angle for another axis of the same plane?

I created a plane at a unique angle, and now I want an orthogonal view facing the plane in my Drawing. When I add Base Views to the Drawing, I can only select standard orientation angles like Top, Bottom, SW Isometric, etc. Can I create a drawing that squarely "looks at" the plane?

how would one create a plane of 2 angles? like 2 layers of angles. im trying to design some handlebars and ive got it done in autocad lt but im having trouble bringing it to life in 3d form. the handlebar ends rise by 10 degress but are also pulled towards the rider by 10 degrees. how would one do this on a 3d program?

Thanks for the good advice. I'm trying to figure out how to re-use a Construction Plane multiple times. When I create a plane, and then put a Sketch on it, the plane disappears and can't be reused. I'd like to save a Plane and give it a name so I can use it multiple times.

It sounds like a timeline problem. You can't Fusion 360 won't let you reference things in the future for stuff made in the past. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/pZt-prOAyL6wmKM.html

I want a plane construction method that requires specifying only two points. Fusion would then create a plane along the implicit line connecting the two points and then allow me to specify the angle the plane makes with those two points. This would have come in handy in so many instances where I needed a plane but none of the existing construction methods were just right for what I wanted to do.

Hi. Just learned something new today, but my problem right now is that I don´t know how to move an object in a angle plane.Let´s say that you have five holes in a line on a cylinder at an angle of 45 °.Now you need to to put them in the right place in terms of a specific measurement in between them. That is my problem today :/ /Eric
