Hello and thanks a lot for this video. Did you test the difference beetween applying the compressor and limiter with numerical Dante tools instead of doing it with your Behringer analogic compressor and limiter ? To say it other way, if you would'nt have had the Behringer compressor yet, would you need it in your chain or could you apply an effect un a numerical way ?

I did not test this...yet. Interesting suggestion though. Thank you.

So the house network cabling really saved you. Had the cat cable had issues, you would have had to run your own network cat cable the same as the XLR run.
@LzysGraphics
@LzysGraphics Ай бұрын
And then the length would've definitely been an impedance, XLR can run over huge distances, while you'd be hard pressed to run cat5e cable over 600ft. You should have nice well shielded cable to prevent any interference from coming into the line but none the less the signal will come through. In this case, I probably would've used an Analog over Cat Cable adapter in order to get 4 analog lines of xlr over a single ethernet cable. Granted you still have to run the ethernet cable but you aren't limited by the distance limitations of Category 5e cable, since you are using it as an analog snake.

This might be a silly, obvious question. If you ride the levels of the sending Dante unit - it will adjust the output down the line, just like a traditional cable setup?
@TheUnMarketingGroup
@TheUnMarketingGroup 2 жыл бұрын
That's 100% correct. Most Dante adapters do allow for some software control of basic Line Levels but any adjustments you make on the input side go out the output side. Some Dante hardware (RME Dante/MADI bridge) even come with built-in software controlled routing and mixing which is incredibly powerful. Have fun!

Hi, cool video! But i have a question about Dante and a DAW. Right now our livestream setup looks like this: All microphones go into the Allen & Heath GLD80 mixer. This is where the FOH mix is made. So that we can mix the audio tracks for the live stream individually, we have built the Allen & Heath iLive iDR Dante card into the mixer. The sound from the mixer (Dante card) then goes to the standard Ethernet connection in the sound mixing PC. The DVS and the Dante controller are installed on this PC. We use ProTools as a DAW. Now the problem is that only a maximum of 32 Dante inputs can be added in ProTools. In addition, we do not know how we can then listen to the mixed sound and then bring it to the Black Magic ATEM Mini Pro Switcher. The only solution I found out was that I have another laptop and can send the mixed ProTools mix back to the Dante network. So that I can then bring the sound to the switcher, I imported the mix from the Dante network with vMix and DVS. And then I send this with vMix like HDMI to the ATEM Mini Switcher in Input 4. Thus, the following problems arise: - We need more than the 32 Dante inputs in Pro Tools - Sound cannot be heard because the ATEM Mini Pro has no aux output - The sound is too slow and the image cannot then be delayed in the ATEM Mini Pro. Now I have some ideas and that results in the following questions: - Could I add more than 32 Dante inputs in ProTools with a Focusrite RedNet PCIe R card? - Is there a possibility with this card to listen to the sound from ProTools (to use two sound cards at the same time)? In ProTools there is only one sound card (Dante) - Do you need a second laptop to send the mix to the ATEM Mini? - Is there an easier way than with vMix to send the finished mix to the ATEM Mini Pro with an HDMI cable? I hope someone can answer my question because I just don't know what to do.

Hi. Can you please tell me the use of ProTools as a DAW in this setup?
@davidefrazione2797

@@TheUnMarketingGroup Hi, thanks for your feedback. With ProTools we want to mix the live band (singers, instruments, ambient microphones etc.) for the live stream. This mix should then be sent to the ATEM Mini Pro via HDMI. In addition, we should be able to listen to the mix, as this does not work in the ATEM Mini Pro. In ProTools you cannot hear the Dante sound, you can only output it to Dante, as only one sound driver per program is possible. And unfortunately you can only import 32 Dante inputs. But we need up to 64. Can you add more than 32 Dante inputs in ProTools using the Focusrite RedNet PCIe R Card? And how would you send the mix to the ATEM Mini? So far I've only done this with an additional laptop (Dante> vMix> HDMI> ATEM Mini HDMI Input).

Hi. Ok, at first I thought there was a more simple solution to this question until I tried to build this out myself. Not sure if this solves for your use case but it was fun setting this all up. The first obstacle I hit was that my version of Pro Tools won't support that many channels unless I upgrade. So I guess that's the first step. I switched to Logic for this test. The second step is to obtain hardware that provides the desired Dante I/O channel count as you suggested. I already owned the relativilty inexpensive and quite awesome RME Digiface Dante that has 128 Dante channels (64-in/64-out) as well as 128 (64-in/64-out) MADI channels with 4x RJ-45 (works as a hub), BNC for MADI In/out and a headphone jack. I had been using this simply as a Dante/MADI bridge to move network audio into/out-of our ATEM Constellation from my Sound Devices 888 mixer/recorder. In addition to the 128 Dante channels/128 MADI channels, the Digiface acts as a USB audio interface. So you can route your DAW input/output the Digiface over USB. The killer feature of the RME devices is the ability to use their Total Mix software to mix/route Dante and USB inputs to the Dante outputs. This ability to mix and route directly on the I/O device is pretty amazing actually. You can take your mixed inputs and mix/mix-minus and route to Dante output right on the Digiface with the Total Mix software. 🤯 Audio Monitoring - another superb feature of the Digiface Dante is the stellar headphone amp/output. You can solo any of the inputs/outputs/mixes and monitor with headphones or send to monitor speakers. I often monitored the Program mix and quickly switch to various mix-minus feeds and back to Program using the Total Mix remote software on an iPad. Program mix of Dante audio into the ATEM mini: The best way that I have found to get Dante audio into an ATEM mini is with an inexpensive Dante-to-XLR output adapter like the the Audinate AVIO Dual XLR Output Adapter I featured in the video. Since doing that video, I have purchased a few of the Neutrik DLINE XLR input/output device and just I love them. You'll also need to get the right cable to connect the Dante output adapter to the 3.5mm input on the ATEM. You need a 2x XLR male (left and right) to a 3.5mm stereo. I have used these successfully - www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B083JHRDB5/ Note that these are unbalanced and I do get a little self-noise but not bad if your level is good coming out of the adapter then you don't need to gain up the noise. Also easy to EQ out on the ATEM. Then just route a program mix over Dante to the output adapter at line-level and into the ATEM Mini's 3.5mm headphone jack. The benefit here is the ability to then delay the audio to match the video. As long as they were all in sync to that point. (Good luck with that ;-) I also added a super inexpensive 7" HDMI monitor (Desview) with a headphone jack to the ATEM HDMI output. I found one with HDMI loop-out so I didn't loose the HDMI output. I hope some of that is helpful.

@TheUnMarketingGroup Hello, one question. Once you setup e configure your kit, next gig, do you need to reconect your laptop and dante controller, or both adapters will automatically see each other again and send/receive signals? Thanks

Once configured through Dante Controller, you don't need to reconfigure unless you want to change the routing. They're connected the next time you power up.

Thanks for the comment Nicholas. That's a great idea! Since the pandemic the rack has changed considerably. It how houses an ATEM Constellation, two Hyper Decks and the new Web Presenter HD. Dante audio is input/output using the RME Digiface Dante to convert Dante to/from the ATEM's MADI inputs. Let me know if that is of interest.
