I really wish Sony would just let us use the DS4 for ps5 games, I've never had any comfort issues using it, but the DS5 is just a bit too big and the palms feel just less comfortable holding it after about an hour.

The problem is, when you're in a voice party on PS5, the back microphone works properly and to a degree it cancels out the background noise it hears. Another problem is the mic doesn't default to mono mode when you use it on PC. All I can really say is that, this controller is definetly works better on PS5 than PC. The noise cancelling works very well, AND it is VERY hard/rare to hear someone's button pressing and haptics when they're playing a game. You should do another test where you test with someone else in a PS5 party chat. As for this PC review though, hopefully we can get some proper driver support for PC. (Probably through some 3rd party.)

I’ve never bashed my thumbs together on a PS controller after owning every single ps console. I had to get my PS4 controller just now to check and couldn’t play games with my thumbs that far over the sticks. (I’ve owned Xbox’s too, and had no problem with that layout, but just prefer the ps symmetrical layout.) Most people I play online with have a headset and will never use the controller mic. I kinda get why they’ve added, but it’s not something I will use.

I'm on PC, I do use a controller for most of my gaming, you can just lean back and relax. I use a separate headphone and a standalone Mic, I can't stand gaming headsets (pretty much any headset with a built in Mic). I mainly use a DS4 unless it's a older game that lacks controller support, then I have no choice but to use mouse and keyboard. I prefer the PlayStation layout as well, never bashed my fingers together either and I have pretty long fingers and thumbs, the tips of my thumbs pretty much line up with the thumbsticks, I can't see how people can play with the joint of their thumb over the center of the thumbsticks. I cringed when I heard about the controller having a built in Mic, being an ex console player (PS4) I can just remember many people having a PlayStation camera and using that as a Mic with a TV or sound system that turned up way too loud. I would never use the built in Mic in a controller. I see it almost like the included generic Mic/ear piece that came packaged with the PS4.

I HATE offset thumbsticks. you talk about where your thumbs sit "usually" but if you are playing an FPS your thumbs should be resting on both the sticks MOST of the time. Even for 3rd person games I generally prioritise camera control over actions. No I don't generally have issues with my thumbs smashing together, but I generally have the tip or pad of my thumb on the stick if I'm not pressing it from the side, if you have your knuckle closer to the stick that might be an issue but that seems REALLY awkward. Plenty of people use bad mics online anyway, I just mute those people if it's too bad, this will be no different. However it has a convenient mute button, and could be handy for brief responses and such for people able to use it properly. Honestly the biggest problem I have with my dualsense is my hands getting gross and sweaty while playing and gunking up that otherwise nice patterned texture on the back. I DO use a PS4 controller on PC, and once prices drop on the dualsense and maybe a blue one comes out I'll upgrade my PC controller with that too.

I LOVE it that literally EVERY TIME someone "corrects" me on what the natural resting position of thumbs are they ALWAYS talk about playing FPS games... HAHAHAH console scrubs, KEYBOARD AND MOUSE are what FPS games need. not sickening robo jerkiness of sticks. If you ACTUALLY LIKE FPS games, you'd get a PC to play them how they are BEST played.

I can only speak for myself but most people that have these arguments or discussions with my friends only play FPS so Im wondering if that is also why he brought that up. You could make the same argument with the Horizon gameplay you just showed. A majority of the time you are using both sticks together. One for moving while the other one looking. How often do you attack compared to moving? Especially open world games. You could also make the case for fighters that when using the dpad you use the buttons so your figures are in the same position. I really think it comes down to preference

I still don't understand people who rest their right thumb on the face buttons. I use the dualshock 4 for my pc gaming (or K+M depending on the game). I actually prefer the non-offset sticks, though its probably more that I've used playstation controllers since I was a kid and it just feels more familiar. I've never had issues with my thumbs smashing on playstation controller. I need to have both thumb joints actually touching the edges of the pads before my thumbs overhang enough to get them to smash together and that's not something that's ever really happened when playing games. Even when I hold the stick in 1 direction and my thumb slips a bit, it rarely slips that far and even if it did, my other thumb generally hasn't slipped so far to cause them to risk them hitting each other. I'm interested in the dualsense, though I want more support outside of steam. Hoping for official drivers from Sony to make it natively compatible, but doubt it will happen so probably just gonna wait for a 3rd party program like DS4Windows to show up and that's when I'll grab one.

Regarding the placement of thumbs when gaming, I'm NOT usually on the face buttons with my right thumb. If I'm playing a first person shooter or any kind of game with aim/camera control I'm on both thumbsticks (so in this case it's more natural for me to use PS4). If I am however playing a game where my right thumb spends more time on the facebuttons, then it's probably a "retro style" game or something and then I'm more inclined to use the d-pad instead of the left thumbstick to move around - and this makes the PS4 controller more natural in this situation as well. The Xbox One controller is never ever in line with my thumbs because I'm all thumbsticks or no thumbsticks at all. I guess I'm prefering the PS4 for the exact same reason you prefer the Xbox One controller! We just seem to have opposite playstyles. :) Edit: My thumbs never smash together because I'm moving the sticks with the tips of my thumbs. There's no thumb present between the sticks. This feels dirty to say even though it really isn't in any way. :D

The mic isn't as horrible the way I expected it to be, but the clicking and tapping definitely feels like an inconvenience. Still, if I were to pick between having a mic and NOT having a mic, I'd pick a mic every time, but there's probably room for some engineering to be done regarding those noises, I guess. Again, not a hill I would personally die on, since headsets are dirt cheap, and just HAVING a mic as a feature opens far more doors than it closes, it's just a thing to keep in mind, perhaps.

@6x6Majin
@6x6Majin 3 жыл бұрын
I will never understand the complaint with symmetrical thumbsticks and supposedly bashing your thumbs together. For the PS2 controller? Maybe because it was tinier than people remember, but on anything past that? No way. Unless your hands are as big as Andre the Giant's, you would have to be playing with the heels of your thumbs to manage it, not to mention I have never in my life played a single game that even put me into a position where I'm pointing the sticks towards each other frequently or frantically enough for there to even be a risk. You even appear to be struggling to make it happen by force when you try to demonstrate it. For me, symmetrical will always be better because frankly, I find asymmetrical makes accessing the D-pad extremely awkward and uncomfortable and I'm convinced the "thumb bumping" argument is made up theoretical nitpicking. I've only ever heard that "it could potentially happen" and never once have I heard "it happens to me all the time". This isn't even anything specifically to do with playstation vs microsoft vs nintendo because it varies on third party USB controllers as well. As for the mic? Personally it's a none-issue for me because I have never used the on-board voicechat for any system. I've always used my PC mic and external software because I have only ever used voicechat with friends in private groups. I've also always disabled in-game voice chat input and output because I don't ever want to listen to randoms online regardless of their mic quality. Take that for what you will but the point is I don't bother complaining about shitty voice chat implementation because I was never going to use it to begin with. Same reason I never complained about Nintendo's idiotic phone app voice chat. It's bad for sure, but I was already using an alternative by choice so it was never going to impact me in the slightest. I'm sure not everyone has that option though.

This literally makes no sense. You say you like symmetrical because asymmetrical makes reaching the DPad awkward and uncomfortable. But playing symmetrical puts the joystick in the very exact place that the DPad is on a asymmetrical controller. Unless you literally use the DPad exclusively, your statement doesn’t make sense.

The mic works. Obviously a mic on the controller is never going to be as good as a headset, but in a pinch it works pretty good and I imagine for voice control and things like that it will be great. This all comes down to personal preference. Everything functions very very well. So if you like the way it feels in your hands then you will like the control. I think the buttons and sticks feel great personally, again, personal preference. However, the haptic feedback is something that you should really feel before fully judging the control. It's honestly kinda weak to put out a review/impression video where you cannot even use one of the main features of the product. It may seem gimmicky but it is actually really cool. Much cooler than I expected, and that's coming from someone who usually hates rumble function. And the trigger feedback is also really cool. It does nothing but add to the experience.

I would love to know more about how well the gyro works with Steam's PS controller support built in. I'm a huge fan of using gyro's, i almost exclusively use the Steam Controller because of it. If controllers would of had gyro support from the beginning, I don't think we would of ever had such atrocities the likes of 'auto' aim, etc. to compensate for the lack of precision control with analog sticks.

Simple solution to fix that mic problem on the PS5. All they would have needed to do was add a "Mute Mic" button with a red LED indicator (LED on = mic muted). Not that hard. Razer has a similar feature on their controller. Put the button bottom center on the controller so that it is easily reachable with either thumb for a quick press, and make it a big button, like the size of the face buttons.

The controller I use for PC gaming is the 8BitDo SN30 Pro+. It is sooo much better than the Dualshock controller and is a cheaper wireless controller than the Xbox controller with added features like gyro controls. It has a Dualshock look to it but feels much nicer, with better face buttons and d-pad, larger bumpers and triggers, better joysticks, and a larger grip that feels much better than the small design of the previous Dualshock controllers. This isn't even mentioning the software that can be used to adjust things like button mapping, joystick dead zone, trigger sensitivity, vibration levels, and even a dedicated macro button. It is by far one of my favourite controllers I have used, with never minding the symmetrical joystick design due to playing more PlayStation games as a child than Xbox games. I recommend this controller to anyone who uses a Dualshock with PC and wants to get more out of their gaming experience that a Dualshock cannot provide.

Ps5 controller mic users are gonna be the equivalent of the xbox kinect mic users. Also I can't be the only one that hates the protruding thumbsticks on the switch and ps controllers. While it doesn't usually happen, In the back of my mind I always feel like my thumb is gonna slip off so I have to apply a bit more downward pressure which can make it difficult to pull off very subtle aim adjustments where as the concave thumbsticks on the xbox controllers give the tips of my thumbs a pocket to fit into and not have to worry about it slipping when I tilt the sticks with light downward pressure.

On longer gaming sessions I’d actually start feeling a cramp coming on.

Sony needs to update their PS Now app on PC to be compatible with the Dualsense. that app has not been updated since the pandemic started if I'm not mistaken, which is a bummer. I don't even know if we'll ever see full compatibility with the Dualsense other than the one in Steam

The microphone isn't a great idea besides the possible use in single player games and voice operation. Though using a DS controller on the ps5 will be a different experience then using it on Steam. I'll wait to use it on the ps5 before I judge it as a controller.

I personally like the PS4 controller over the xbox style, but still yet to try the PS5 controller. I use the PS4 controller when ever I need one for PC gaming, things like GTA5 or other controller games. As far as the PS5 controller MIC goes, eh it's good enough to be honest, as long as games don't make open MIC the default, should be fine, most people who talk more than a few words will buy a headset/MIC for better talking anyway. Knowing that the player will 100% have a MIC in hand can open up fun play.

Great video. Not owning any PlayStation since PS2 I have to say that I don’t use a PS controller on PC. I do have a good Xbox style PC controller, and I do occasionally use my NS controller on PC. My only issue is, as you alluded to, Xbox/NS switch the X/Y and A/B layout...

@mjc0961
@mjc0961 3 жыл бұрын
Eh? It sounds like crap. I immediately noticed the drop in quality, and that my left ear was suddenly very lonely. And that was when he had it up to his face. When he dropped it to the normal playing position, it got worse. And then when he started "playing", game over, it was complete garbage. And like he said, you also have to account for other noise in the room/house - he's filming in a setup specifically to make videos sound good, whereas a lot of people are just going to be playing with some background music on and kids or pets running around and all kinds of nonsense. So it's going to be even worse still than what he was able to demonstrate. The only comments that aged like milk are the ones who said he'd be wrong about it. It was so obvious he was right. And it's pathetic that even after you've heard it, you still deny it. 15:28, nobody wants to hear _that_ in chat. If I heard that over voice chat while playing game, I'd be trying to figure out who it was coming from so I can mute them. Or I'd be disabling voice chat entirely.

The ps5 controller is amazing in some regards, flawed in others, but the fact that you can’t pair a dual shock 4 to the ps5 is inexcusable. Total cash grab Edit: I’m happy someone else also likes the Nintendo pro controller! Edit 2: On the ps5 controller, you can press left and right from just putting your thumb on up or down. Same goes for up and down from left and right. It’s been screwing me when I use pine resin in demon’s souls. I apply the lube, switch back to grass, and put away or change my right hand weapon forcing me to reapply lube.

Nice video Blunty. I’m listening to your video on headphones and the controller mic seems to go to the right of my stereo mix. Do you Thani that has something to do with either the drivers or the array not being set up properly on the pc? Cheers
@BluntyTV
@BluntyTV 3 жыл бұрын
Yes, I edited the video with headphones and I caught that. I left it alone because I wanted a fully true experience of how PC's treat it right now (and also, there's a slight phase difference, in addition to levels, the L vs R - and forcing it to "mono" made it sound really REALLY bad)
@shamusot00le

@@BluntyTV Cheers. I maybe think I wasnt very clear (sorry) but I wonder if it will be different on the PS5 in how it treats the array - whether the sound cancellation is handled in the controller or the console.
@BluntyTV
@BluntyTV 3 жыл бұрын
If it does use additional software based noise filtering on the console side, it can only make the sound quality worse. I already know from experience with even sophisticated AI driven noise cancelling headphones, hardware in line adapters, and software, etc, that while environmental noise can be filtered out pretty well (in some cases, it's nearly magic! - Like Nvidia's RTX voice), BUT handling noise, and button clicks - the big issue here, are simply not able to be filtered out without catastrophically compromising voice clarity - I've LOVE to be wrong on this. But experience tells me not to expect to be.

TBH I was pretty impressed with the performance of the mic while you were using the buttons and everything. Considering that it is a free form of voice communication for people on PlayStation I think it does its job. People might buy a ps5 and not want to pay the cash for a headset or microphone setup or might not be able to afford it so I think this is good enough for that scenario. I really enjoy my Dualshock 4 controller on pc though I prefer my steam controller. If the force feedback and all the other features like that become supported on pc I would definitely end up buying one. The features are gimmicky but cool.

I used a PS4 controller for a while and will go buy one of these today if they're in stock. I'll buy a ps5 eventually. I only use a controller for racing or sport games and the one or two times a year I start playing them, I always have so much trouble have the pc/steam/each game recognising the controller. I love PS controllers because I have the hands of a 12 year old girl. That microphone idea sucks. Surely they could have tested it and lowered the frequency volume for button pushes

All those comments saying "this aged like milk" aged like milk. 😏 I said out loud "Oh thank god!" when you switch back to the normal mic because the quality was that much better. Yeah, at normal mic distance, PS5 controller is passable other than my left ear being lonely. In the lap, really bad. Actually being played on, nope, if I heard _that_ in a game's voice chat I'd either be looking for whoever it was coming from to mute them or just disabling chat altogether. Whichever option would get that racket to stop violating my ears the quickest. Maybe it works better on an actual PlayStation 5, where Sony might have the software configured to use some noise canceling or whatever. Would have to hear it on a real PS5 to know for sure (I'm sure not going to trust the comments to tell me it sounds great, because of course the Sony Simps are going to say it's perfect regardless of how crap it is). But if anyone tried to play and chat on PC like this (or PS5 if it still sounds like crap), I'm absolutely muting them. Playing like that is a crime against GabeN and should carry a sentence of being banished to UPlay.

One thing that disappoints me is the Xbox Series controller still seems to have a much bigger dead zone than the Playstation. Its particularly obvious in Horizon when trying to do precise aiming, hopefully dualsense retains that precision. For that reason and something about the disability in my hands, I find the Playstation controller more comfortable and do not have the thumbs touching problem. Although I do find my thumb slips off the left stick too easily compared to Xbox due to the angle.

Actually a pretty good, to the point review/thoughts for the controller. No idea why you would sully that with that click baity, rage baity title/description. I tend to switch between Xbox and Playstation controllers (Which makes press x awkward at times), but I prefer the playstation ones. I prefer their stick placement more personally and I can honestly say, I don't think I have ever hit my thumbs together lol. Looking forward to getting one of these controllers for my PC. ... When it comes to me and pc gaming I tend to switch between controllers depending on the game I'm playing. FPS games ofc with mouse and keyboard still. Though I'd like to have some sort of Wiimote+nunchuck option as I don't like 3D movement with WASD. But back to controllers. For 2D games I'm using the fancy SN30 Pro+ as it's super comfy and works great with 2D games. For 3D platform ers or racing games I stick to my trusty 360 controller. Hate the d-pad but love everything else. Used to game on a Xbox One controller but for some reason after 2 months of usage the RB no longer read my inputs, lovely controller besides that fault.
