The one knob compressor changes several parameters of the compressor. from min to max, it lowers the threshold, but also reduces the ratio from about 20:1 to 2:1 at max position. So your incoming signal requires to be gain staged or set at a level that you like the compressor setting to be in. Kind of reverse of what you would normally set a compressor to the signal. Eg, high level input for high ratio (min), low level input for low ratio (max). I have a video on my channel that shows how I analysed the compressor that might help you better understand and make better decisions during mixing. Many other manufactures normally display a graph between threshold and ratio changes but TASCAM has not made any of this public.

The Aux 2 Main isn't actually part of the FX signal chain. As long as nothing is plugged into the Aux 2 output jack, the signal goes straight from the Aux 2/FX Send to the FX bus. If you plug anything into the Aux 2 output it will disable the FX bus and then you would have to raise the Aux 2 Main in order to get the sent signals to the Aux 2 output. Nothing wrong with leaving it at unity though, you just don't have to if you don't want to.

I know almost nothing about the market for studio monitors. But I heard these were good + cheap, and I've loved them. Hope you feel the same!

Another brilliant video on the model 12. I think I will get one this year after years of using the porta 02 mk 2, dp 004, dp 008ex and the dp 03 sd. Keep up the good work!

Thanks! It's a cool device, and I've been really happy with it... but I've been very, very frustrated by system errors. I never had errors with prior Tascam products, but I've fought "File Error" and "Write Error" messages on my last two songs. I suspect that is saves/stores audio files differently than the DP products, and that may contribute to the frequency of these errors. So if you buy one: be warned, and save/backup often!

My model 12 is a few days away, watched your other video, seeing how the fx is selected makes me wish the model 12 had a way connect to a mobile app on a tablet and then control things from there, wishful thinking? Nice video, expressive song!

That would be cool :) But if it's a current feature, then I don't know about it. I know there's Bluetooth connectivity, but I'm not aware of an app to control the effects (or anything else you do with the Model 12 itself). I think the Bluetooth is just an input/mixer feature.

So does that mean that you cannot have different FX on different channels? Say I want channel 1 to have "delay 1", channel 2 "chorus" and channel 3 "flanger"? For use in a live rehearsal setting.

No, you can't have different FX assigned to different channels, at least, not the built-in effects. For use in live rehearsal settings. However, for recording work, you can re-record one channel strip's output with any given effect to the master channel, then "track swap" it back to your original channel. In so doing across the board for each channel you can have different channels rendered with different effects. But if it's a stereo effect you'll lose the stereo effect if you swap the master back into a single mono channel. You can send the master to two channels, keeping the stereo effect. But unless you're using 7/8 or 9/10 or else using 1 and 2 or something like that, you'll lose the stereo effect.
