i saw a video on KZfaq some years ago where someone was applying spray foam insulation in their walls. they took a piece of plywood, covered it with sheet plastic and nailed it to the 2 x 4s. Then sprayed behind. Apparently the foam does not stick to the sheet plastic. After it dried and the plastic was taken off, it was a perfect job. flat and in.line with the 2 x4s.

The absolute best way to apply the foam from a can like this to a large area is to snap the straw off of the piece it connects to the trigger. Then it will blast it out and let you cover a large swathe while emptying a can quickly.

Use vaseline or Pam no-stick spray for skillet cooking to prevent it from sticking to you. Apply it right to your wrist and hands. If you didn't plan that far ahead and you do not have any paint thinner or other similar paint cleaners to remove it from your hands then use BABY POWDER! Yes,, you read that right.. 2 or 3 applies (lightly) and it will instantly dry up the stickiness! Just apply the baby powder very lightly after you are done with using great stuff.. Of course, if you cannot tolerate the vaseline or pam on your skin. Baby powder will dry it up and make it wash right off of your hands in about 10 mins (after the 2nd or 3rd application depending on how lightly you apply each.) Rub the baby powder in deep. Lastly, when dealing with painting (ESPECIALLY) oil-based paint then use the baby oil, or vaseline or pam spray on your skin and even spray it on your hair *if* you are using a paint spraying machine and do not have a way to cover up your hair. Pam will wash off a LOT easier than oil-based paints. Often you will not even need to use any sort of paint cleanup liquids to get paint off of you. Just warm water and soap will remove the majority of it if you lightly coat your skin first with any of the said products. If you applied it properly before you started painting then you can wipe off 80%+ of the oil-based paint even after it has started to dry.

@stevevanpelt4475
@stevevanpelt4475 3 жыл бұрын
The problem with foam board is that it still leaves the possibility for moisture to condense on the exterior metal since it's not a perfect seal. Unfortunately with vehicles, the moisture barrier is in the wrong spot (ie the exterior metal). Personally I think full spray foam is superior because it adheres to the exterior metal and thus prevents any condensation on the metal. I just pulled down the foam board in my van that was sealed in place with great stuff by previous owner. Tons of condensation behind it.

I saw one kit go for about $230 for 8.75ft but Im not sure the amount a can will cover for around $3. Im debating buying the cans and the rigid foam panels to insulate my attic. Old house 30's or 40's build and it doesn't have any, don't have the money to drop to fix it all in a weekend but could work room by room so this would be a practical way to stretch the cans purpose.

Alistar, that would be the biggest mistake you could ever make. You'll still be spraying out of cans a year from now to get the job done. How are you planning on dealing the ventilation in your attic while foaming? Hire a professional or get froth packs. This video is so misleading in about a million different ways. Apples to apples, you can't compare a bus to a house.

@@rngri45rusty97 I already have ventilation and can get the blue foam for practically free so when a house has no insulation in the attic, it is the cheapest most practical option to get the job done. 30 seconds in, could have saved money bought XPS cut it a little smaller, used the spray foam for filling the tiny gap. $6 a can per "x" volume vs $22 for a 2'X 8' (16 sq ft )sheet. Just sayin.

No offense it is nice video but i think it would be cheaper and with better results if you used normal polystyrene insulation (that black stuff is even better than normal white one) and for placed where you couldn't place it you would use foam..this way you would have better results for sure..less chance for any not insulated places like you could have now..and ofc results would be better..but anyway I'm glad you did at least something ..that bubble wrap was a joke

Should have just bought a froth pack

Yes I agree. This would have been fine for a smaller job, but in hindsight the froth pack would have been better in this situation.

While your skills are impressive, why not just cut 1" foam boards a about 1/2 shy on each side and then fill those gaps to provide a seal.

I didn't want any air behind the foam. So ultimately decided to go the spray foam route

@@FarmAlarm I've always wondered about the possibility of air behind the foam (and I assume trapped moisture) but no one ever mentions anything about it.

You would have been better off filling all square and rectangle voids with Styrofoam flush with the studs and then use the expanding foam for all other void and cracks... You were not thinking straight and that is why you probably live in a school bus... now you will NEVER be able to go back an fix anything...

If this was all done to do a video, as the OP kind of said, then he spent $100 for 100K views and got a foam insulation job done. Peterson is right in some respects though, you are really never going to be able to go in and fix anything without a holy hell of a mess trying to scrape that stuff out. And seriously, now you could have leaks and you'll never know until pieces of the bus start falling out having rotted away from within. Mostly rigid board with foaming as necessary might have shown leaks that could have been repaired in a timely fashion. Some of those areas looked like they had only an inch of foam, so maybe you got an R3-4? While thats helpful for sure, more than likely an as big benefit was air sealing. A rather interesting way to live.
