Paint edges are an important element of your watercolor paintings. They can indicate the different surfaces of whatever it is you're painting. They can be used to show distance and they can also be used to direct the viewer's eye to a certain area of your painting. In this video I demonstrate how I made use of different paint edges to paint a sheep in watercolor.

I have no words to describe how I'm learning so much with you. Thank u. I'm feeling connect with the animals subjects due to you. I've been trying painting landscape, architecture, plants, never felt really happy painting them, but you did open my eyes to paint animals, a life changer. Lol. Painting animals it's so good and colorful. And in this video you have an amazing way to teach, as always. thank u.

It's so wonderful to see how your followers have increased, Louise. You are a superb instructor. I, myself, have always found solutions to questions or conundrums when it comes to watercolors. Kudos to your continuous ventures, and thank you so much for your time and visual joy in your own projects. When painting is no longer enjoyable, it's time to walk away for a while.

I loved this tutorial, Louise. Very specific and detailed on hard and soft edges. Sheep seem to be a terrific choice to demo those techniques. My question is what do you think about using the two different edges on something typically thought of as a hard edged object? Thank you so much for this wonderful video and for teaching it so well. I find watching you paint to be a soothing pastime for me. XOXOJANE

I just found your page, thank you for your wonderful tutorials. I got into watercolor a while ago, but your techniques are eye openers. I painted a sheep before, but now I know why it didn't turn out to my liking, no soft edges. Before I start your tutorial, what brand is the red masking tape? I purchased a white one but it won't come off without damaging the paper.

How to decide where to do soft or hard edge?
@LouiseDeMasi
@LouiseDeMasi 2 жыл бұрын
I mention that in the video a few times. Hard edges are best where I want to draw the viewer's eye. Soft edges where I want to convey soft or round objects and where I want to make things look like they are further away - like the back of the sheep.

🤗 you seem to be recovering from the -man-made evil- virus! Hope you're well. My eye is swollen this morning from the post-virus sinus infection; antibiotics helping. So what's the 00 brush you're using? I'm so frustrated with mine because it holds no paint/water, but I can see the hairs on your brush are clearly longer (and more hair, too). My riggers are too long, though. I love Love LOVE your soft edge vs hard edge videos! I'm adding more W&N to my collection, but I don't have that red-shade blue yet. It's on the list now! Blessed day for ya! Thanks for a lovely video.

Hi Louise...I am into watercolours only because of very very few watercolorists...you are one of them....I like watercolours only if it's SLOW...but 99% of watercolours artist do it fast. Unlike you. I'm here mainly because of your slow style. But...I want to do landscape and cityscape SLOWLY..which I had never ever seen anywhere...I'm would be indebted if you could show how to do a landscape SLOWLY! Please comment. If it's not slow...I m planning to quit this medium..and go into pastels or oils.
