Jeff, haven't used Maprika in a long time but from what I heard it still works like it used to. I wrote about it on my blog a long time ago www.mentalmetal314.com/2015/02/metal-detecting-with-old-maps.html There is a reference to a post that Scott Clark did on how to use it. Click his link and that should give you what you need. Its not that difficult you just have to find common points of reference today that existed back then (cemeteries, churches, intersections, etc.) The more anchors you can place the more accurate your old map will scale to where you are. I've tested it by walking around Gettysburg from maps I had from back during the war where soldiers were positioned etc. and it was ridiculously accurate but I had placed about 30 anchors to get it to scale that way. But you're right it's just a place to post stuff :) as far as the maps go the Internet is full of them you just have to poke around but you'll find them but I agree sometimes you won't find maps on some locations so I would recommend reaching out to your local historical society or library. They are always a great resource. Good luck!

It's been awhile since I've used it but yes screen shot or take a pic either way should work. To scale the photos look for churches and cemeteries that existed back in the today that are still around. The more pins you can put on your map the tighter it gets
