Doug you should have emphasized the power tools must always be moving AWAY from the edge of the tool. It's hard to see on video and in fact many times in a video the rotation will appear to be running in the opposite direction. Best wishes for the holidays and keep them coming

Doug, I have struggled for decades getting my tools sharp. I have used a variety of stones, jigs, sand paper, never quite happy with the results. Even ruined the profile of my Gerber EZ Out. Wasn't untill I viewed your 'Make a strop, use a strop' video that I started to get really good results. My wife knows to be carefull handling my knives now (of course she grabs one of mine first for the kitchen)! Great info!

I love my 1x30 sharpening belt system, finishes up with a 12k and then a strop. I also have a polishing wheel on my bench grinder with gold polish. It is great for all knives and jewelry.

I've been buffing my blades for years. It's incredible how sharp they are. The bonus is the smooth finish provided when compared to a blade sharpened on a stone. (A mirror finish) It's quite easy, and it takes just a few seconds to complete the task.

Thanks for showing your sharpening techniques. They have the same polisher. I polish the blades on hard felt wheels with a shank on a drill covered with green paste. I've been watching your channel for a long time. Greetings from Poland Adam

Best part of the video. "These tools have never seen a stone." (!) Me with $300 worth of stones. I'm just getting into carving. As a carpenter, now retired, all I sharpened were flat stuff, now I have a few gouges. Really like that the 'strop' moves and not the blade.

For those new to power buffing/polishing, small blade tools can get very hot when you are buffing them. Let cool or dip in water before handling the blade.

I bought a flexpcut carving tool set, it's a set of 4 palm tools. I think they are the smallest carving set they have. Thinking I could sharpen them, I believe I screwed up the bevel of the tools. Is there a way I can get that back, I'm sure there is. I just dont know how. You have any idea?

I believe I know the answer but with the other sharpening instruction yesterday, I wish to clear up confusion. I believe that the belt on the 1 by 30 sharpener has the smooth side to the tool. But yesterday the strops shown all mentioned keeping the rough side to the tool. You mentioned the importance of the belt direction and tool orientation but what side of the belt should be to the tool?

Doug, have considered turning the buffing wheel around. That way the wheels would be going away from you. You will have to reach behind the mottor to turn it on.

I think Power stropping is the method of choice for woodturing chisels, which accumulate much more wear than any hand tool.

Yup... power is kewl. I use the Ken Onion Work Sharp with the tool attachment and have the honing/stropping belts for it. Wonderful tool maintenance equipment. Leather stropping boards for in use touch ups. Life it good ! Now, go show young Joseph how to use a SHARP hatchet, and beat him about his head for using his cutting edge to strike his ferro rod. Show that boy how to put a GOOD 90 degree angle on his axe head for such abusive work.

To make sure.... the leather belt was moving opposite of the blade edge? if so my belt grinder must run opposite of that one.
