Using Projectors for Sim Racing: Is it Good Enough?

Here I am sharing my quick review and opinion on using gaming projector Benq TK700STi for Sim Racing.
This projector can run at 4ms input lag in 1080p@240Hz or 8ms in 1080p@120Hz or 16ms in 4K@60Hz.
I believe these are pretty good numbers for projector which can give you much bigger picture size than any monitor. I use 3 projector for better immersion.

Your projector calibration needs a lot of work! Get a projector mapping software so the images are properly aligned

4, 8, 16 ms is not the input lag. Every device has different input lag. You need equipment to test it. Just using the refresh rate for calculations does not give you input lag, if that was the case then every single monitor ever made would have the same input lag at the same refresh rate as every other monitor ever made. That being said, you have a great setup. Would be better if it was 3D projectors but still fantastic. Enjoy!

Wow I didn’t know this was possible at home! I might have to change my setup, Great video ❤️ Couple questions: Does the projector setup work well with other games like Automobilista 2, iRacing and ACC? How’s the cockpit view in other vehicles? Is it as immersive? Thanks again love your channel

Damn that's actually pretty sick, it's basically a like a triple screen setup, just without any bezels at all, very nice By the way, what sim/game are you using in the video?

Thank you! It is rF2. I do not know if other games support 2 wheel only view. If you do iracing it will be cockpit view then screen should be places much closer

Your footage looks very similar to what F1 teams use in their sims, very impresive. Did you notice any improvement in your lap times when switching from 60Hz to 240Hz?

Reminded me of the BMW Motorsport simulator that Jimmy Broadbent tried out. Probably running at the same 1080p resolution too.

This wide field of vision simply cuts me out of immersion. Nothing seems natural to me in what I see, even the colors are very bad. I love seeing videos of people experimenting like this, it always makes me realize how much I love my Sim/rig and that I am well installed.

Why does your 4k footage look like a completely different camera is being used? What Gopro are you using the picture looks terrible.

Both footages are made by GoPRO 10. When i was shooting 4k portion, it was cloudy on our server. Thats why it is darker. GoPro is not good with low lighting as you may know. I probably need other camera.

Conspit Halo triple-projector set up is by far the best solution i ve seen, but costs a real honda lol

Looks spot on to me, I'm pretty sure the F1 teams use projectors in their simulators. The only thing that puts me off is the cost of the projectors! Epic setup though, well done. 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍

yeah that setup is crazy . how much do u pay for the projectors and the screen . how do u instal the screens , i mean how is it builded?? would be nice if u can show us a setup tour .

The quality is just not there compared to monitors out in the market right now and the in put lag is very slow. If you stop the video @ any point all the wording overlaps a lot even in slow speed comers.I would get a headache seeing that all the time. It's a cool setup, but I have much less in triple 32's @ 144HZ with 1 MS response @ 2k that are 3 years old.I'm not sure what the FOV is,but you look far away from the screen and from outside of the projection. It takes away from the immersion if that's what your going for. In the end it's what makes you happy. Nice video! I do appreciate the effort you put in to it. I'm not bashing so don't take it that way. Gave you a thumbs up.

Why is it not possible to have 120 Hz at 2560*1440 resolution? That would be ideal for me. I cant differentiate between 120 Hz and 240 Hz, while 60 Hz to 120 Hz is noticable.

This projector does not support 2560x1440 120 hz unfortunately

Yeah, I'll stick with my triple 32's at 7680x1440p @165hz 1ms - looks way better than even that 4k footage. - was entertaining bigger screens, moving up to 55" screens but IDK if that's even worth it honestly. - I'm the guy that if it isn't leaps above what I am currently running then it doesn't justify the price IMO, and def not paying that much money for projectors for a worse experience. I would be totally pissed at myself if I invested that much into 3 projectors and had results that looked like what your showing.

Update: Just bought a 48" LG ultra gear 4k oled monitor. Giving this a run and will see if I purchase 2 more for setup on sim rig. Until then the 48" will be on desk and will move the triple 32's to sim pit.

It is personal preference I think. I want to see my own hands so i chose this option. Plus i participate in league which runs full distance races. Doing 2 hours in VR is hard for me. Projectors still gives u 2D image

Your front left wheel suspension connection gear is disconnected . It's going to break off and bend .

Why not just go VR at this point??? You also get depth perception in VR.

Because I do full length races. 2 hours in VR is too hard for me. Also Because i want to see my hands and see what I pressing on the wheel but mainly because cant do races 2 hours+ in VR
