As I have been biking around the area filing other routes and rides, I've been using Sacramento RT light rail to get to further routes. Sometimes I ride 30 miles in one direction, and don't have time in one evening to complete a 60 mile round trip. In terms of a light rail system, Sac RT is very convenient to use and is bike friendly.
I didn't plan on RT Light Rail becoming part of my more regular routine, but with a station so close to me, it ultimately ended up proving useful. I find this a better option than loading and unloading my bike from my car for a ride, and I can avoid leaving my car in some Parking lots I don't trust.
I have a friend who wants to ride early in the mornings sometimes, Ive been able to use light rail since it runs from 4am to Midnight on the Gold line on weekdays, and simular hours even on the weekends. Full service restoring August 30th 2020.
The fare prices are very reasonable, a single RT ride is $2.50, with a Unlimited daily pass being S7. A single ride ticket gets you anywhere within the RT system with free transfers for 90 minutes. The Zip Pass app allows for contactless electronic tickets to be purchased directly on your phone. RT ticketing kiosks also take cards and cash.
RT allows for up to 2 bikes in the front in back of all train cars, 4 per train car; Except the front of the first train car being reserved for wheelchair users only. This far I have never had a time when I was unable to load my bike onto the train.
