How to set up Shelf Lining in your Embroidery Hoop. Its a very effective way of keeping your stabiliser or fabric still in the hoop and stopping them slipping. A tried and tested method I have used for Two years on the densest of designs.

I did this to my hoop after watching this video and my final results are way better and I have less thread breakage and no puckering due to the extra stability! Bonus...I got an entire roll at Walmart for .99 and didn't use hardly any of it...this roll will last forever! Thanks for the video!

The leftover can be used to line the bottom of your crisper drawers; it cushions the fruits, especially. If you needed a use for the rest of the roll!

On a day when I couldn't stay awake while drawing, I got all my supplies out and upgraded all my Janome 500e hoops with your method. The first thing I embroidered with an improved hoop was vinyl floated over fabric-like wss, and it worked great. (I did have to open the screw somewhat.) This beats my previous shelf liner hooping aid of sticking on strips of shelf liner with double-sided basting tape. You're probably aware that besides this being a great help for hooping thinner stabilizers (because hoops do not get tight enough!), adding the shelf liner to hoops is a satisfying project.

Linda Baldwin Lol I said at the very beginning I float my fabric hunny. I never hoop my fabric. When you hoop fabric the material can get stretched out of shape so when you unhoop the fabric and it goes back in to shape the design will be warped. In 8 years I have never hooped fabric

Yes it does. I need to unscrew more I guess. I've been floating my towels since then, using temporary spray adhesive - seems to be working.
@kathiego233
@kathiego233 6 жыл бұрын
That's fine to use temporary spray adhesive, just be sure to use it sparingly and clean your hoops thoroughly afterwards. Make sure to use a new needle with each project. I found that if I used spray adhesive too much, in the past, that my sewing machine repairman was very happy and could charge me a lot to get all of that gunk out of the sewing machine. It was very expensive!

I'm new to machine embroidery- does this enable me to use fabric without stabilizer? or just to help the fabric and stabilizer to sit firmly in the hoop? I imagine I'll be using so much stabilizer, that if this will mean I Won't need it except with thin fabrics... but I could very well be dreaming ;)
@DiScarrott
@DiScarrott 7 жыл бұрын
cathrynl77 hi love. Yes you do need to use stabiliser. The only time you don't need to use it is if you use Terial Magic which is fab. But I never Hoop my fabric, I Hoop the stabiliser and float the fabric on top using temp spray adhesive like 505
@cathrynl77
@cathrynl77 7 жыл бұрын
... so you temporarily glue your fabric to the stabilizer, after you hoop the stabilizer only? so why Di? does it stitch better, eliminate hoop marks... just trying to wrap my brain around this. also, I'm just learning how to download images (patterns) to my sewing machine... its really not easy lolol. @DiScarrott
@DiScarrott 7 жыл бұрын
Kristi Ryther stabiliser and thin fabrics can slip with dense designs or when removing regularly when doing appliqué or ITH designs. This helps grip them tightly and completely stops the risk of this happening. I know literally hundreds of people who do this. It's a great help.

Kristi Ryther Welcome. maybe you have better hoops than I do. I got this idea from a well known embroidery designer and I have never had a problem with it. I am in over 100 groups including the ones I created and many people do this. Or they wrap the fabric type medical tape around and around the Hoop. I am glad to say this video has helped many of my members who had problems with designs due to fabric or stabilisers shifting. It's particularly helpful when doing a dense design of over 100,000 stitches. I am pleased you are problem free with your embroidery. Happy Stitching
