www.bluettipower.com/products...
I was lucky enough to be contacted by Bluetti and given an opportunity to try out one of their latest products, the Bluetti AC200P. I was initially pretty excited because I had heard that it was the best portable power station 2022. All they asked in return was that I be honest about my experience and tell you what I thought about the product. I primarily plan to use it at the off grid cabin for weekend homesteading but, I see how valuable it will be for full spectrum survival during natural disasters, emergency prepping, overlanding, van life or just as sustainable and renewable power source for every day life off grid.
I discovered that the Bluetti AC200P is a beast of a powerhouse and able to do everything that I needed for a weekend. (And everything my 2000k watt gas generator could do!) I used a big and little shop vacuum, a toaster, a hair dryer, flat iron, shop tools and even a microwave! Not to mention the small items like charging my phone, camera and Go Pro batteries. I didn't show everything just for video brevity. I love this BEAST!!!
However, with all things, there were a couple of drawbacks that I wasn't aware of. I discovered that the kryptonite of the lithium battery cells is cold temperatures. While the unit is operational and will still power your devices below 32F to avoid damage to the battery cells it is unable to be charged.
Just something to be aware of and plan ahead when you know you will be in a cold environment.
I was also unaware that I would be unable to use a single 100 watt solar panel to charge the blue beast. After a bit of digging I discovered that the Bluetti AC200P 's charging parameters are 35V-150V. I had two different 100 watt panels from different manufacturers and both panels pushed under 20 volts. So I needed to use both panels to get over 35V. Not a big problem but just something that I was unaware of. If you plan to use the Bluetti in temporary and portable situations I would recommend you purchase a foldable panel that is 35V or higher. (aka 200watts).
My final thoughts.......
Even though there are a couple of limitations that I discovered I was completely impressed with both the quality and capacity of the Bluetti AC200P. Although the initial price is a bit higher than a comparable gas generator once the initial investment is made it is cost free while a gas generator costs continues to add up as you fill with gas. If you can even get gas! (think disaster scenario) The Bluetti is indoor and vehicle safe and does not create a fire hazard in dry environments.
If you are considering a purchase of a solar generator, I would highly recommend you check out the Bluetti options and products, compare the abilities to the competition I think you will be impressed.
See you Soon!!!!

Awesome review 👍 Here is a hack to charge your Bluetti outside bellow 32 degrees. Build a clear plexiglass case, about 6 to 8 inches bigger on all sides. Use a Styrofoamor rubber pad to put your Bluetti on,place plexiglass over-top. This method acts like a Greenhouse, raising temperature inside well over 32 degrees...will charge Bluetti no problem ( keep plexiglass in direct sunlight) 👍 Thanks for the share 👊 💥

Congratulations Evan. What a blessing!! Bluetti has an outstanding reputation. A couple more 100 wt solar panels and you'd be set ... if you wired them in a way like you have planned for the interior inverter inside the cabin. You could even add a couple more panels later to give you even more incoming wattage to charge faster. Plus, you can use the power as the Bluetti is being charged on sunny days. This is exciting for you! Very cool

I just have to say that was a great review of the Bluetti. I have no experience with these portable power sources. I have been using a 5500 watt portable generator as emergency power for years. I live in tornado alley and 3-5 day power outages is not unheard of even if the storm does not hit all that close. I am going to look closer at this type of power. Presently, i use my generator to power a deep freezer, refrigerator, couple lights, oxgen concentrator and my gas furnice in season. I like the idea of not having twenty gallons of gas sitting around the house on just a maybe. Thank you
@TRERUNSWILD
@TRERUNSWILD 2 жыл бұрын
I'm glad it was helpful. The big thing to realize is that it has a limited run time for big items like a house fridge. It will charge and discharge at the same time but probably not a lot of sun after a storm. Although you can always run it off the car but tat would take more gas I'm sure.

Thanks for the video Terry! You sure put that power station through the ringer with those high loads! I have a smaller one that I got to power my CPAP when we are traveling. I was kinda surprised how much my wife liked it to charge her phone and laptop. I got her one with the solar panel for Christmas. I just set up a cellular security camera at our cabin. It has a little solar panel to charge it. The past two weeks here in Minnesota has also been too cold for it to recharge too. Fortunately it doesn’t need much power to keep it going. BTW, I put in a shower at our cabin last summer. I used a Camplux on-demand propane unit that works great! We pump from the lake but you might be able to use filtered surface water at your place. My wife loves it and even her sister was impressed. 😁 Your recommendation of Will Prowse for batteries and solar is a good one. Actually he makes his living from KZfaq and writing books. He isn’t an engineer. His personal story is quite remarkable. His mom was poor, he moved into an RV when he was 17 and had serious health problems. What he has done coming from such difficult circumstances is really inspiring. I had -32° here this morning (-36°yesterday) at Lake Vermilion. I’ll be heading home to Mendocino, CA tomorrow. I’ll wave if I see you as I’m passing by.

We have a small cabin very similar to yours, what I did was wire the cabin as a house complete with breaker panel. Then ran a wire from the panel outside with a plug. I use a 2200w honda that sits out back behind the cabin. We all know how quiet they are so inside you can't hear it at all and when outside at the fire it is a faint hum. I put an extended run fuel cap on it and run a line into a 5 gallon can that sits next to it. When I get there on Thursday or Friday night I start it and it runs 24/7 till we leave Sunday. I can get 3-4 days off that 5 gallon can running 24/7 we have a small refrigerator , coffee pot, 2 ceiling fans, toaster and several lights both indoor and out. It's works awesome. I have turned everything on just to see if it will run it all and it does but when coffee pot and toaster are both on it really works it. Just another option that works well for us. Love your videos keep up the good work!

I have two panels on that stand but only connected a single. so at the cabin I should be ok if I add a splitter and run a connection in the shack. That was a good review. I'm in Canada and I was wondering what the cold would do to this battery. I am new to this technology and I just bought a 200 Max + an extra battery. I think the best setup would be to have a gas generator along with this battery. You can run the generator for a little while and charge the battery plus run a heater at the same time to warm it up. I didn't buy it to use it daily it's just as a backup and to be honest I haven't really tried it yet because I want to make sure I understand everything about it first.

If the unit is cold it won't charge until the cells warm up. It takes a fair amount of solar to charge it. It's not the watts but the voltage. So if you are planning on panels make sure they can hit the voltage.

Thank you! Great information. Does the internal temperature increase in the battery if you are discharging power and or charging with solar panels? If so, is it enough of a temperature increase/time/ surrounding environmental temperature/ watts being used, in order to be able to charge it with solar panels? Will it sustain the 32°F internal temperature while taking a charge? At what external temp, while taking a charge, (assuming it is keeping itself warm while charging), would the device stop charging because it could not keep up with the external temperature drop?

That's a lot of technical questions that I'm not sure I will be able to answer. Check out will prowse and he probably has answered some of those questions. Another viewer suggested discharging a trickle draw to create resistance and keep the cells warm so I think there is merit in the base of what you are thinking. I might have a better idea over time but dont want to guess.

@@TRERUNSWILD I have heard of making a warming cabinet for such a cold scenario and a Lithium battery set up. I think it was using a Keenovo silicone heating pad on a metal heat sink plate on the under side of the cabinet which was connected to a thermostat and thermometer inside the cabinet. All of which was directly run by the solar panel set up. The bluetti could handle self heating if the solar panels fell below the heaters working range of power needed to run. Night and low solar input. Set it at 37°-38°F to switch on or off on a relay switch. That way you could go fishing/Hunting all day or leave for a week or longer and let the fire go out as long as the solar panel array could handle the draw needed keep the cabinet warmed at the desired temperature. At the same time to be able to charge the bluetti when it is warm enough to accept the charge when needed in colder temps.

I’m not sure what the specs are but I leave mine in my unheated cabin all winter in northern Minnesota where -20F is common and -30F a couple times is normal. I’ve seen no obvious issue and the charge holds in the cold. Unless there is some unseen degradation that I’m not noticing it hasn’t been an issue. In my experience the cold has only affected charging until the cells warm up to temp. I’ve found it requires more solar than obvious because you have to get the volts high enough to trip the chargers. So if using solar make sure the panels can get the voltage required even if the panel watts are high enough

I just got the AC200MAX, live in Colorado and I’m planning on using mine for ski trips where I may be overnighting either in my vehicle or with my camper. In each case It will get very cold and as long as it will discharge only (no recharge) ok I’m fine with it. I got it because it has sufficient capacity that I should be able to use it for 3 or 4 days without a recharge as long as I use it wisely. Mostly to run an electric blanket and recharge my phone and laptop. Hope those two items can take a charge when they get cold!!

I’m aware. I’ve tried several other battery solutions and non survive long enough. That’s why I got the max. A few other reasons but that is the most immediate.

We recently purchased the AC180 and took it on a van trip through northern arizona, Nevada and Oregon. The temps were in the 40’s overnite at the extreme. The battery only lasted one to one and a half days sitting in the insulated van. We only used it to warm water once in the morning and a small bit of heat in the morning. The thing crashed in the cold weather. It’s been advertised for camping and outdoor use but this thing can’t handle the cold (not even that cold). We tested it at home in the house and it performed well with the 600 watt devices (small tea kettle and small 600 w space heater). As for running a 12 v fridge @40 watts, it lasted about 3 days, while our previous battery, Jackery 500 will run the fridge for several days with little or no effects from the cold. I’m going to contact BLUETTI about this, but am curious about others’ experience?

Hi! You mentioned that was the 180? Not sure if it was a typo. I used the Bluettie AC200P. Mine holds a charge well when not used. It will sit in my cabin when I'm gone for weeks below freezing without much if any discharge. Never hurts to contact Bluettie and see what they have to say. I've no experience with the 180 but have been happy with the AC2000p

The original AC200 (nmc battery) can run 1 solar panel. The AC200P (lifepo4) can run one solar panel but you will need the DC Enchancer (basically a DC to DC boost controller).

Hi terry caught your video this afternoon very impressed on your review on the Bluetti I guess great minds think alike lol I was up on my own cabin last weekend and unlike you I don’t have a real heat source you have the wood stove at least you can heat your cabin I installed three inferred 1500w wall heaters made by heat storm I ran all three of them to see what they could do and how fast they could warm up the cabin they ran pretty good until I popped a breaker I know now I can’t run three at a time for more than 1 hour before I pop a breaker I was able to run at least 2 of them but it wasn’t able to get past 40 degrees in the cabin when I had all 3 of them running it was 45 and could of got warmer if left on more so I got in contact with a company called generark they had a solar generator I was looking into to run at least 2 more wall heaters but the one I was asking about they told me wouldn’t suit my needs I basically want a solar generator to run 1 or two extra heaters but the one they had was I think 2000 w just like your bluetti so it would only run my wall heater for 1.2 hours I guess the heaters I have draw a lot of electricity it’s hard to come up with a heat source even though I have electrical coming into the cabin I might have to go with a heat pump and run a separate line into the cabin I guess I’m looking for a cheaper solution to heat this cabin I’ve also looked into wood and pellet stoves but I’m looking to use the space I have in that cabin to the fullest and a wood or pellet stove may take up extra room I’m not sure I want to give up I will have see what’s best there’s a lot of pros and cons with any options I’m sure you know that I’m sorry if I keep rambling on about my cabin this is your channel I just wanted to run a few things by you that I’m doing in Maine that’s all because I really like your channel alot and that guy on KZfaq your talking about will prowse I’ve been watching his videos for awhile now I’ve left him a message about building a power station to run those heaters but I’ve heard nothing from him he must get thousands of questions but can only answer so many but your right he is a Genius I wish I could understand him better so I could build my own solar power in my cabin even though I have power already I could eliminate my power bill by selling back to the electric company but anyways great video it seams that bluetti is a game changer for you good luck with it and take care and be safe see you on your next video terry I will most likely watch your video a couple more times lol

I love the idea of selling solar back to the power company. Its called net metering and maybe that would be an option for you to off set bas base board electric heaters. That way you could sell back energy created when you were gone to build a base to use when you were up north? I have used a oil based electric heater in my old house and it was pretty good for a bedroom. They look like the old boiler radiators.

Bluetti just showcased a couple of new solar offerings at CES this past January they also showcased them on their website (cannot find anything about the new offerings on the site currently); however, these generators use a sodium-based battery that will allow people in colder climates to use the solar power stations in temperatures as low as 14 degrees Farenheit before it shut off. Personally, I think your current set up of just waiting until your cabin has warmed up before you can use the power station is sufficient.

Also, the brand EcoFlow can add on additional batteries, too, but MUST be charged with the main power unit. The add-on Bluetti batteries can be charged, and used, independent of the main unit. Each battery has a couple hookups. I'D LOVE an AC500. And the Sodium-ion battery model has peaked my curiosity. Haven't dived headfirst into the info on it's advantages/drawbacks.
