Using the Right Saddle Size - Installing Bucking Rolls

Are you concerned with getting the right size saddle for your mule? The good news is that since the mule / donkey all share the same bone structure, one mule saddle will fit to the size of any mule / donkey with average or better conformation.
Where saddle size is important is when fitting the saddle to YOU.
Buying the right size saddle is vital-but what if you want to allow someone else to ride but they are considerably smaller?
In this video Steve Edwards from Queen Valley Mule Ranch will introduce you to bucking rolls which allow you to resize a saddle to allow for smaller riders to enjoy riding without having to buy a new saddle or putting them at risk of injury because of a saddle that's too big.

Bucking rolls will not put the rider in the Center Postion! if anything they will force you back on the saddle. Old Timers had "eight button slick fork saddles" whereby the seat strings could be used to tie a rolled saddle blanket or jacket as filler between the pommel/crotch or tailbone/cantle if the saddle was too big or when riding a rank horse that tended to buck. With the development of wider pommels (High Shoulder Saddles) the Western Ranch Saddle found it´s home on everyday working situations. The quality was built into the saddle, not added on.

Howdy Mark, thanks for the comment - Bucking Rolls are one solution for fitting a saddle to a different rider. Ideally, you buy the right size saddle for the rider and when that's not an option (for instance, when allowing a child or small teenager to ride) bucking rolls can help the rider fit in the saddle. @@muleranch Please read my letter again where I say "Bucking Rolls will only push the rider father back in the saddle", there by giving the rider a "soffa sitting position instead of "Forking The Horse" as he should.
