To use the automatic detergent dispenser, make sure the SmartDispense feature is turned ON (Auto, Less or More should appear next to the SmartDispense button). If it’s on AND you have liquid detergent in the back of the drawer but it’s not working, it could be clogged. You can remove the whole tray and drain the liquid detergent from the back compartment into a bucket and then you can wash the whole drawer and inspect the pencil sized plug hole on the back side. I think that’s where the clog would be.

I’ve never used that product, but I add Oxyclean powder to the front compartment when I need extra cleaning. I’d keep the front flap down for liquid “detergent” and lift it if you’re using a powder to boost cleaning power. I think fabric softener would dispense too late in the cycle. There’s my 2 cents :) Hope it helps!
@volcrazy89

If you're using an additive like that, it needs to go in the front compartment with a dose of detergent. Since you can't use both the front compartment and the smart dispense at the same time, you'll need to turn the smart dispense off.

You have the machine’s SmartDispenser set to “Auto” and it still isn’t dispensing? Here are some things to check: 1) sometimes the dispenser button gets bumped and turns off. Try setting it to “more.” 2) I think someone in the comments mentioned that they needed to update their machine/app (if using the app) to get the SmartDispenser working. 3) remove the tray, empty the detergent and check the dispenser hole on the back side. It’s the width of a pencil. You could wash/rinse it and make sure the dispenser hole is open.

We didn’t connect the app for a few reasons. 1) it seemed to ask too many personal questions. 2) Our WiFi is “too slow” already 3) I’m not sure we need an app to do laundry. Thanks for letting us know that the app allows you to set the dispensing amount. I use “less” on the machine’s option.

@@fixthishouse3303 yea its really awkward to have it in the app. Here on miele’s bosch siemens machines you just set it on the machine itself. You check on the back of the detergent what the average amount it and program that, then the machine will weigh and adjust, simple! I don’t think you wifi speed being too slow should be an issue, since the machine also can update even if it takes 6 hours to download. Well idk what kind of information they ask, but you could just lie about everything lol.

I usually use the SmartDispenser for the liquid detergent and put the powdered OxyClean in the front compartment. If I were putting both in manually, I’d use the front compartment and 1) measure separately (using the detergent cap and the OxyClean scoop) and 2) start the load immediately so the powder and liquid don’t get stuck in the front of the drawer.

I don’t remember a plug, but I feel like water gathered in those bins unnecessarily. I would check the level on the machine, making sure it’s level or tilted back slightly vs leaning forward. For mine, I slid the dispenser tray in and out until the water sloshed around and drained. Not very professional, but it helped the fabric softener slot at least. You can also remove that tray. I guess I should make a video for that. Thanks for watching!

Hi Nancy - I just got this washer today and wow had the Smart dispense on Auto and there is so much soap in the drum right now - I will keep it on the "Less" option. Can I ask you when your machine is spinning do you also hear a faint knocking or clicking noise along with the spin noise? It almost sounds like a roulette wheel (how it clicks) and it coincides with the spin revolution. So as the drum speeds up or slows down I can hear this background faint knocking noise - I hope its normal otherwise we have an issue. Thank you!
@fixthishouse3303
@fixthishouse3303 2 жыл бұрын
Hi JB, here are my thoughts: some people say their SmartDispense doesn’t work and it ends up that they need to connect it to WiFi and get an update. I’m not sure if that’s an issue with too much detergent or just no detergent, but worth looking into. I have not connected our machine to WiFi and SmartDispense does work. I did wash a fluffy blanket last week and couldn’t believe the suds I saw. It could be an odd occurrence like that one blanket I washed. For the knocking sound, I don’t think that’s right unless you are washing something that’s clanging (coins, loud zipper, etc). Some people comment that there are shipping/packing bolts on the machine that need to be removed. The machine makes a lot of noise if the bolts aren’t removed. Hope that helps!

When I use powder Oxy Clean and the regular liquid detergent, I put the liquid detergent in the Smart Dispense unit and add the powdered cleaner to the front compartment of the tray. You need to flip the front of the tray up for powder and down for liquid detergent. Hope that’s what you needed to know.

I measured how much mine is dispensing. It is WAY too much. On the "Less" setting it used 3 ounces. Supposed to be 0.9 oz on "less". I filled the reservoir, ran the load, then measured how much it took to fill it back to full.
@fixthishouse3303
@fixthishouse3303 2 жыл бұрын
That sounds like an interesting experiment. Are you using Tide? I always run our machine on Less unless the load is especially dirty. When I fill the unit, there is a gap under the lip of the opening where you can add more if you fill the air space. Could that be the discrepancy? How can you tell if you are filling it consistently? I might have to try something like this… or weigh out exactly 2 oz of detergent and see if it uses it all, etc.
@jamesluckett8445
@jamesluckett8445 2 жыл бұрын
@@fixthishouse3303 I fill it until it reaches the bottom of the round opening. I know it is using an outrageous amount of detergent. You can also do 5 loads or however many before you measure how much it takes to refill and divide by the number of loads. Thanks for the awesome review! I just got the matching Ultrafresh Vent washer & dryer and had a quick question. Have you noticed where the liquid fabric softener dispenses in the machine? I found mine by accident. I over filled the drawer compartment, and it was leaking the excess directly into inside of the machine, specifically on to the rubber seal in the door area. When I run a large load of towels, I don't feel that little amount is an adequate amount of softener. Is this common with your machine too? I don't understand why they would make the softener dispense into the seal instead of onto the clothes. I'm still trying to get used to the new functions, but my only gripe for now is the fabric softener issue. Let me know any other tips and tricks you may have found with your machines. I actually just had to run the towels for a 2nd time as my Smart dispense is still completely full and it doesn't seem to be dispensing at all despite running several loads on the "more" option.
@fixthishouse3303
@fixthishouse3303 3 жыл бұрын
Hi! I believe the drawer compartment gets flushed with water when the machine is running. If your detergent isn’t dispensing, can you test it by running a cycle with manual detergent (Smart Dispense off) to see if the area is getting wet. You can also remove the drawer using the button at the back and clean it. I’d check to make sure yours isn’t clogged or blocked with a plastic plug from the factory. I don’t have a good solution for the softener except to use a more concentrated brand of softener. It should use all that you put in the compartment though. I refill mine with each load that I want softened. Hope that helps.
@DarianHarder
@DarianHarder 3 жыл бұрын
If you accidentally fill the cup too full it will dispense the softener too early. You’re not really supposed to fill it up to the max line. At least that’s what I was told by a GE repair guy. Also try filling the rest with water (again not to max)
@diegoiunou
@diegoiunou 2 жыл бұрын
The typical front loader design has a common discharge funnel beneath the drawer, and it goes into the tub through the closest point, which is near the door (that's why sometimes you can see the water splashing). Since fabric softener can stain clothes if it touches the fabrics directly, it would't be sprayed inside the drum. Premium machines come with more technology that increases efficiency but you have to pay the price.

Are you washing light (not heavy) loads? I suspect the machine adjusts the amount of detergent based on the weight of the clothing you’re washing. You could pull the whole tray out (there is a tab/button on the back of the tray that says push), dump the detergent into another container and test it with just a little bit of detergent. See if you get a “low detergent” warning or if the level goes down. Just some ideas.

Have you turned the machine power button off and then off? That resets the Low Tank light. If the light stays on, I’d suspect a clog in the SmartDispenser tray. (Remove tray, drain into a bucket or something, inspect the hole on the back side. There is a spring or something back there. Detergent should come out of that slot if you slide something long and thin into it.)

Here’s my reply to someone else who asked for my opinion earlier today: Would I buy it again? Yes, absolutely. Is it for everyone? No. We managed very well over the years with second hand washers, fixing them as needed and spending much less money. However, we are an active household (6 people) with 3 Airbnb’s (lots of linens/towels), so it’s definitely worth it. I should do an 8 month “review” video on these units. My biggest complaint: the washer has a little mildew on the inner lip of the blue door liner and some of the plastic on the dryer’s lint filter is weak/ may be breaking. Again, we are using these machines heavily each week. Hope that helps!

We just sold the house with that washer. We didn’t have any mechanical issues. We did replace the blue door gasket. My biggest complaint: the force of the hot water made our pipes bang. For the matching dryer: right before we sold the house, the dryer would occasionally smell of gas. We had a repairman look at it, but he said it’s normal. I suspect the igniter was on the way out after 4? years of heavy use.

Here are some things to check: 1) Is the SmartDispense option on? The top left button on the control panel lets you choose how much detergent to use (more, auto, less). Make sure that something is selected. 2) Is it clogged? Pull out the SmartDispenser drawer until it stops. There’s a button on top that you press to remove the tray. Once the tray is out, inspect the dispenser hole on the back side. 3) Is the machine brand new? You may need to connect to WiFi and update the machine. (I think this is a “lame” solution, but someone mentioned it once. We have not connected our machine to WiFi.) 4) Is the machine under warranty?
